Why I Should do Morning Runs

It's not just about the temperature difference in the morning; it's about getting the run done so that the rest of the day is free, and especially on the weekend, I never know what plans might pop up that will take away from my running time.

So, yesterday, as you know I did not do my long run in the morning, and I kinda thought I might do it last night. But when friends asked if we wanted to do a game night and order pizza, I didn't have to think twice: friends, pizza, beer, games? Or running? Yeah, the former won out.

And of course, I did not get up early this morning, so that means I've procrastinated enough this weekend that my long run has to be done on Sunday night. Good lord, next weekend I have to get my act together b/c Saturday night is our 4th party (a few days early b/c we all have to work on the 5th -- damn the 4th for falling in the middle of the week!). So, I think I'll spend the day today relaxing and waiting for the cruel sun to set -- then I have 9 miles to log.

It's so hard to get up in the morning to run. But, when you weigh the pros and cons, it just makes more sense. And you feel good about getting it done right away.

But ... you knew all that already... I just thought I would point out the obvious!

Good luck tonight with the 9 miler!

I know what you mean. That's one of 2 good things about am runs. I hate sitting around waiting (at least I have to wait . . . for my husband to watch the kids LOL) and having it loom over my head.

But, at least you enjoy your Friday or Saturday nights and don't have to worry about waking up at 5am. I do like knowing that after I run I can sit around like a potato and watch TV or waste money on books without the run hanging over my head. Good luck tonight - I'm hoping for a cold front!

I am one of those annoying people who (usually) likes getting up early to work out. The downside is that I'm usually in bed by 9:30. But it does completely eliminate excuses.

You look adorable in the polyester shirt, btw. :)

Girl you have got to get it together! Those morning runs are so, so, so much easier!! You basically have the same type of climate conditions we do here in Texas gulf coast...

Find the will to get up and get er done sista!!

I know ahead of time whether or not I get a fun Friday night or a fun Saturday night. I pick one or the other. Doesnt mean I cant have fun both nights, but one of those nights needs to include NO beer, NO overeating and early to bed..like 11pm

Good luck on that 9 tonight!!! and no SLACKING!!! ;o)

I know how you feel. Somehow, I always wait until after work to exercise, and my ass is draggin' by then. I think once my move is over, I'm gonna get back into a schedule (including getting up before 11, lol).

Good luck with your run tonight!

Keep working hard on the running, Jess. It takes time to get it right.

I hope you show us all some good times with your long run tonight, we are going to be expecting 9 gruelling miles of pure burn, so don't wait to fill us in.
I agree the mornings definitely are the top run times but sometimes we need someone to upend the bed to get things motivating out the door....good luck..

Amen sister. I feel the same way. Soem nights I wonder how I can keep the balls in the air like I have been. Morning runs are mandatory for me this week. *sigh* I just hope that I stick to them!

Good luck with your 9-er next weekend!

There's something about getting our long day in before most people have gotten out of bed that I just love. It's awesome and fires you up for the rest of the day.

Dammit Jess, you git your ass outta bed. You let me know when your next scheduled morning run is and I will 'help' you out. I have your number on speed dial, and between me calling, and the bear getting pissed about it, sooner or later you will wake up. In the words of Will Ferrell from Wedding Crashers, " Jess, The Morning Run, F*&k!!!!".

I am right there with you on waking up early to run. Not easy at all. Get it over with early next weekend so you can enjoy the festivities and feel good about getting runs in also.

I had plans to do a 10miler last night. Did I do it? NO... I'm in the same dilemma - I HAVE to do my LR in the AM or else I won't do it. Just not motivated right now either... need to get my mind focused. After all, I AM in marathon training...

Good luck to ya!
