Eek Gad

While previous storms Fay, Gustav, and Hanna largely bi-passed South Florida, Hurricane Ike now poses a significant threat early next week:
Up until this afternoon, Ike's path was forecasted to be similiar to Hanna's, which meant that it hadn't been a direct threat to us previously, but then at 5 pm, the forecast was updated and suddenly Ike had a new projection that has it headed straight for South Florida. Right now, there's really not much to do but watch the forecast and prepare with the necessary supplies. Freakin' out right now would be a waste of time -- by the look of the 5-day forecast, we'll need to save our freakin' out for Tuesday night.

So, until then, I went for a 3 miler (29:02) tonight, and then settled into a bowl of Jerry's very spicy chilli (required a cold, delicious Bud Light to help ease the tingling). As for the rest of the evening, I have a disc of "Mad Men" to watch or a whole season of "Gray's Anatomy" to begin, so maybe I'll flip a quarter to decide which one to watch, and then settle in.

Happy Thursday everyone! I know it's been a short week, but thank god tomorrow's Friday, huh?

This is so not good with Shannon and the baby! She is ready to pop and the doctor said any time...so damn that Ike better turn again and head out to sea!

The book was The Gathering by Anne Wright or something like that. Not one of us liked it and no thought it was worth reading at all. First time that ever happened to a book club pick for me.

Yeah, I'm not getting good vibes from Ike..I'm thinking he wants to mess with us.

I just need enough gas to power my generator to keep Miller's frozen milk cold! Other than that...normal concerns.

though I don't freak out, I'm easily consumed by the weather channel. I almost wish I were a hurricane hunter. I also hope the forecast is wrong, that has been known to happen.

Good luck! But you have a good attitude - freaking out wouldn't help at all.

All the best!!

I've been keeping my eye on this one with family in South Fla. The computer models are a mixed bag, but I am afraid it looks more and more like it may hit somewhere in South Fla, unless it makes that turn to the north

One of the joys of living in the South... Keeping my fingers crossed for ya!

We are watching Ike too. I hope it weakens.

A bowl of spicy chilli and cold beer, sounds like you should have been watching some football.

Oh man I hope Ike takes another detour and doesn't hit you!

I told you not to trust the Running Gods. You must apease them immediately. Poor some hard alcohol on a bowl of that chili and light it on fire.

Stay safe, you are really being bombarded this year! We haven't really had a full blown Hurricane since 1954...Hurricane Hazel...I was a little one then and kinda remember it...just couldn't imagine week after week of them...

At least with a hurricane you're somewhat aware of the impending doom. Reason #2342 why I hate tornadoes.

Hope you dodge Ike. Have a great weekend!

I think the track has shifted a little west, so you guys may be ok! I always figure, when it's several days out, that's lots of time for the track to shift. Doesn't it seem like these storms never make landfall at the point they say they will 5 days out? So, my guess is that you all will be fine.

I've been following Ike. Being a former South Florida resident, I know what it is like to go through this. We are actually getting a bunch of rain and flooding in NY tonight and tomorrow from the remnants of Hannah. Good luck and stay safe.

Hope Ike doesn't treat you guys like Tina and beat the hell out of you.

Be safe. Crazy hurricanes.

I guess I'd take the earthquakes her is Cali. You never know when they're coming, but you don't have to fret about them headed your way either.
