Almost Rained Out

It rained all morning today, so Norah and I missed our usual morning run. But it cleared up this evening, so after Norah went to bed, I laced up and went out for a quick 3 miler. Of course, I have no clue how quick or non-quick it was since I didn't have the Garmin, but it felt good.

I'm kinda undecided about how to proceed from here regarding the Garmin's death. Send it in to Garmin for refurbishment? Buy a new 205? Upgrade, shell out the moola, and go for the 405? What are your opinions/thoughts?

And, remember that dead possum I noted last week? It is now just some black goo and a skeleton. Decomposition sure is fast here in FL!

Oooh Garmin is coming out with a new model this month--it's the 110, it's pretty basic, just pace/time/distance...but it is smaller and a little more affordable!

Well, I have the 405 and really like it. Good size and pretty easy to use.

Sorry about the Garmin. I just had a detailed conversation at REI with the GPS dude. He said the 305 is their tried and true model...big but affordable. I may upgrade if the FR60 doesn't pan out.

Oh, Garmin died? I would take advantage and go for something new!

Unless you have a need for longer battery life or other features, I'd go for the refurbishment.

Tough call. I've read quite a few bad reviews for the 405, especially concerning the touch bezel and the watch getting sweaty. Check the customer reviews on Amazon and see what you think. The reviews look better for the 310xt but it's expensive. If the new model comes out soon, I'd try that one. My 305 speaker died and takes longer and longer to get a signal lately. I'm guessing that it won't last much longer.

Good luck.

I've been considering getting a 305 myself. It's not much of a difference in price between the 205, plus you get heart rate to boot. As old as yours is, I wouldn't trust a refurbish.

I have the 305 and love it! :) True, it's a little bulky, but when I'm running I like the larger screen.

When my 205 kicked the bucket, I went with a new 205. They've come down a lot in price, so it was worth it.

I'm not a fan of the 405. I like more data on my screen all at one time and it just doesn't seem user-friendly.

There's a new 110 out also, which looks like the 405 and claims 'no bells and whistles'. Not sure of the price, but I *think* it's cheaper. Might be worth looking into.

Glad you were able to get out for your run. I have the 405 and love it, but of course, I've only had it for about a year and a half, so I don't know how long it will last.

I'm still a fan of my 305, so would probably look for the cheapest 205 or 305 I could find.

Eww on the possum...

I own a Garmin. It cost me about $300. And then I have a $6 iPhone app called Runmeter, which does about 5-times more than the Garmin. If you have an iPhone you should check it out.

The 405 has been good to me, but it depends on your budget. Diapers aren't cheap!

If it were me, and it might be soon because my Garmin seems to be flakey at best these days, i'd go with the 305.

that's a tough call ! It's raining here this morning and cold, so I couldn't take Nick out for our morning run. So sad!

They are coming out with a new 110 too, I think. It's pretty basic but smaller like the 405.

and BTW... I wouldn't eat that possum now ;-)

DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT get the 405...either go cheap and buy the 305, or spend the extra and get the 310. the 405 is HORRID.

I'm a 305 person! Haven't had any issues with it and my left arm is much bigger than the right arm now!!!!!! ha

I don't have a Garmin so I definitely don't have any good advice for you on that one.

But I'm a little grossed out that the dead animal mush is still on the sidewalk.

I love my 305 and have no probs with it. If you can upgrade, go for it. Otherwise, I am a fan of not wasting things- refurbishment is easy on your wallet and the environment :)

the 110 looks like it's going to be really popular - my manager at work was a secret wear tester for it, and said that he was a big fan. No matter what, having a Garmin again is a must!
