Recording the Running

Each year when I renew my subscription to RW, I get the free training log that they send along, and as corny as it sounds, that's what I use to record my weekly mileage, as well as the other info we runners like to write down: times, conditions, "feel" of the run, etc. Yes, you'd think with all this playing on the interweb, that I'd have some kind of online running log, but sadly, I just don't trust the interweb with such valuable information. And ultimately, I find some strange satisfaction in writing things down with pen and ink. I'm old school like that.

Anyhoo...it's January 16th and I still haven't received my promised training log! I renewed my subscription back in early December, so it should be here by now!

In lieu of my log, I have been writing down my mileage on scraps of post-it notes, and the disorganized fashion in which those notes are piling up is causing me some kind of anxiety. Granted, all the runs are saved in the Garmin as well, but I need my tangible log. Should I call RW's customer service and demand my log? Or be patient, settle down and wait another week or so? (If anything, pregnancy has granted me very little patience. When I want something, I want it now!)

So, I recorded this evening's 3 miler (29:28) on yet another post-it, and I suppose if my training log doesn't arrive shortly, I will have to either send a strongly worded email to RW, or actually call them and demand to speak to a person. Because I want my log, dammit.

That's a bummer. I actually use software and a log book to track my running (just in case one gets lost of blows up).

You must be a teacher! lol

But I hope you get your log soon!

If I were you, I would be calling. There's no hurt in that!

I write down on paper my training information as well. I also keep the digits in my sidebar, but just in case (I don't trust blogger) I write them on a calendar.

Bummer! I think I got one, but I think I already disposed of it. I write all mine on my calendar and also online.

Hope yours comes soon!

You can sooo call and complain and blame it on "pregnancy brain". :-)

I would call. But I am kind of OCD like that.

I just started an online log this year with attackpoint, but I still write it down as well. I get what you mean.

LOL! I WANT MY LOG!

Why does that sound so funny to me.

I write mine down too, but also put it on my online log. Because I am crazy obsessive like that. You think I could use just one, but nooooo...

Wow! The hormones have kicked in. Just kidding. I would give it a week and then check on it.

I didn't set any record walking times tonight but Annie and I hauled but out to Oakland Park and back (the almost 2 mile loop) in about 25 minutes. I need a garmin for walking.

Absolutely! I'd call RW in a heartbeat! Rant and rave at 'em and blame the pregnancy. It's another kind of catharsis.

Do you keep your gradebook on paper too? I know peeps who do. I would, but then I'd have to do the math on my own, and I'd prefer not to, so I use an computer gradebook.

Yeah, you're such a teacher! :o)

I'd call. Those things can't be that expensive to ship one direct.

I am totally old school recording-wise to. I use a calendar (printed from outlook) just for recording runs. I've been doing that for years--but it's so easy to look back and find out just which route I used for that second twenty miler in 2002.

Hope your log book comes soon! (or try printing out january from outlook...)

I'd be freaking out too! I'm sure they'll understand if you call and demand - post it notes just won't cut it!

I'd definitely call and ask them about your training log.

What? You get training logs when you renew? Last time I renewed I never got one. Those bastards!! It's funny that you bring this up because I just got my renewal notice in the mail this past week and is sitting next to me now LOL. Mine say I have to renew by 1/23/09 (my subscription doesn't expire until August though) to claim my gifts. Did you do it within their "time frame"?

Mine hasn't come yet either . . . I've settled for one of those free calendars from the Easter Sales people.

I dont use it, but I am waiting for mine as well. The numbers junkie in me uses excel so I can overanalyze my training

I got mine but don't use it. I hope yours comes quick!! I hope your morning sickness is doing better! I know how awful that can be!

Post it notes are the best filing system EVA :-) I keep a stack of them on my desk!

Hahaha...how funny. I've been meaning to go through the Garmin and transfer all my data from last year on! I want to upload it all to buckeyeoutdoors, so I have the whole history (rather than just from August when I started using that). So anal we all are!

I actually use my blog as my running log! It isn't nearly as handy to look back on - but it kills two birds with one stone!

I actually prefer the digital log. Much cleaner and easier to tabulate.

I would follow up with RW if I were you. They might not be giving out logs this year because of the overall shitter economy. But if you say you've been a loyal reader forever and you actually do use the log and yada yada yada, they might find oen for you. Just throwing it out there.
