Commuter-Vomiter

So far, this week is holding a terrible track record for puking. In fact, the only puke-free day was Wednesday, and I'm beginning to think this whole "oh, you'll feel better after 12 weeks" business is a bunch of hooey!

Anyway, this morning I encountered one of my worst puke-nightmares: Having to puke while stuck in traffic (second on the list of puke-nightmares is having to puke while teaching a class). Like any other barfisode, this snuck up on me rather quickly, and I literally thought I might do one of two things: Open the car door and vomit there next to the car, or puke all over myself.

Thankfully, I did neither. I was able to quickly maneuver out of traffic and into a nearby McDonald's, where I rushed inside and used their surprisingly clean bathroom for my dirty business. It sure sucked to puke, but I can't tell you how relieved I was to have made it to a toilet. That feeling of sitting in traffic, wondering if I could hold it long enough, was one of the worst feelings in the world.

In non-vomit news, I did a 3 miler last night in 29:54, and I hope that incident this morning is all the stomach has in store for me for today because I'd like to feel well-enough for the planned 3 miler I have this evening with Jerry.

Hmmm, no random food comment as you excited the bathroom? Prime opportunity!

Dang girl! You're going to have to start carrying around those plastic grocery bags in your car/purse (The small packet of Plastic Bags to Go thingys). Sadly, I've been doing this for 5 years now. It started out as a barf bag and then it just evolved into a dirty diaper/dirty clothes/carryall for whatever junk the kids leave in the car thing LOL

Good job on your run.

Sorry to hear you keep puking. Bleck.

Aw man. You should get some air sick bags from a plane for your car. Gross but... better than the scary alternatives.

And - I think its week 14 that marks the 2nd trimester so maybe THAT will be the end of your pukathon. I only hope that you are not a sick-through-the-whole-pregnancy chica. :(

Aw Jess, that sucks. I'm glad you made it to the toilet, or that would not have been a nice way to start the day. I hope this passes soon!

Glad you made it to the bathroom. Hope the rest of the week is puke-free!

I agree with SJ Goody -- I think it is 14 or 15 weeks on the barfing. As I recall, you trade that in for hungryallthetime.

Good job making it to a toilet!

I was always afraid of the needing to puke while commuting thing, especially since I took the metro. Thankfully that was back before 9/11, so the one time I did need to, there was a trashcan.

Hope this phase of pregnancy ends soon for you!

I've had that sitting in traffic I got to go feeling too! As a matter of fact, I think I pulled of the interstate into a McD's too!! LOL... A, the joys of childrearing!! :-)

I am so impressed that you can be active and continue running with morning sickness. There is nothing worse than feeling like you have a constant hangover.

I had a barfisode in the car. It wasn't pretty. Glad you were able to make it to a bathroom.

I would totally have just barfed on the side of the car. Just think of the fun looks you would have got!

LOL ! Too funny - when my wife was carrying our first, on the way home to Brooklyn from my parents house, she felt the urge.....she pulled into a middle median, opened the door, and let loose !

Oh Jess...I wish I had some magic to take away the barfisodes...but I do LOVE the new labels you are inventing for it!

I had morning sickness too, and I'm sure you're getting lots of advise in how to deal with it...I was willing to listen to anything, so here's what sorta worked for me...soda crackers, I'd keep 'em with me everywhere I went. I found that if my stomach got even a little bit empty, I'd be running for the toilet. Even a cracker or two would help.

Hang in there. I'm so impressed that you continue to run, even after you puke.

Pack a bag in the car. I had an emergency one when I was pregnant and pulled it up to my mouth several times. :)

Do you feel in coming? Does it pop up really fast, or are you miserable for a little while first?

Your a real lady, I would just hack out the window.

Wow! NASTY!! I would have just opened the door and done my business right there, but it's always good to be able to find a toilet!!

Dammit woman! Open the door and Puke like a man! Even better, roll down the window and puke while going down the interstate.

That sucks to have that lovely feeling sneak up on you. At least you made it to the bathroom in time. Maybe you'll luck out and that will be your last pukey car moment....at least for this week.

I can mention this as you chose not to give it up last year at New Years...
Did the sitting in traffic feeling like you couldn't make it to the bathroom...remind you of anything else in your past? Well it reminded me! I got a good laugh about the last time that happened. But for today, gee I'm sorry. Hope you feel better going forward.

omg... my #1 nightmare is having to puke while on a plane that is taking off (seat belt sign and strangers only inches away!)

My bigger fear would be having to vomit on the subway here in NYC. Those are close quarters and sometimes they are so packed that you can't get out in a rush. Ew.
