No-See-Um? Still-Feel-Em!

After we got home yesterday and unpacked, I took a long nap with Scooter (who, after his bath, has basically been sleeping since we got home: camping exhausts a little dog) and when I got up, I was pretty refreshed. So, despite the fact that I really wanted to just sit around and scratch my bug bites (seriously, they're everywhere: no-see-um, which are kinda like tiny mosquitoes, bites are all over me -- me legs, arms, feet, torso, back of my neck -- it's awful and it looks liek I have chicken pox), I instead went for a short run.

Again, I did 3 miles, and again it went well. No IT pain, which is very encouraging.

This week I plan on running another 3 this evening, cross train tomorrow, 2 miles on Wednesday and 2 miles on Thursday before our flight leaves. The distances are super short, but that's what's on my schedule, and really, I just want the legs to remember how to run -- on the whole, I want them to be rested for the big show on Sunday. Right now, I'm nervous about the IT flaring up during the marathon, but I can't do anything about it if it does, so I'm just gonna pretend that it isn't a possibility. I feel like I am in perfect health, so why not go into the marathon with that frame of mind?

BTW, I am getting nervous for Sunday, partially b/c I have so much to do between now and when we leave on Thursday, but I slept great last night and I'm just trying to concentrate on one thing at a time this week so I don't overwhelm myself mentally or emotionally. Plus, I have these bug bites to scratch and that helps take the mind off the marathon.

Rent the movie Saint Ralph. This. week.

I watched it last night and it was a.maz.ing.

A great inspirational movie for anyone doing a marathon!

Ignorance is bliss...and, bug bites suck. So does the weather...

I don't get RW. Is the article you mentioned in the most recent issue? If so, I'll walk to B&N and read it later...

Sounds like you are on track for the big run. The bug bites should subside soon, right? Mine are killing me today. I couldn't even wear my watch which makes me feel naked even though I have socks, shoes, pants, and a long sleeve shirt on to cover my "evidence" of calling in sick Friday.

Bug bites as a distraction from stressing, I'll have to remember that!

I'm sure the week will pass quickly and it'll be race day before you know it. You are going to do great!

That sucks! I hate bug bites. I have a mental picture of you lounging with Calamine lotion all over LMAO!

I'm glad that IT pain still isn't around :-)

I have experienced no-see-um's and thought I was going to die. I blow up like crazy. I hope you have some relief. Sounds like you are on a great plan for the week. How exciting.

I second JuneBug's comment on Saint Ralph...it's really sweet. and cute. and inspirational above all things. We usually watch it the week of any big race. :)

And those lil' buggers are the worst kind. Yikes!

Safe travels to you on your way up to Chicago. If you need anything while you're up here, just call. It'll be Sunday before we know it...and your IT band will be just fine.

You'll do awesome this coming Sunday, I know it. You're ready for this, you've been preparing for some time, and it's all going to pay off on Sunday.

I am so excited for you!

LOL. Yea, we call them "flying teeth"...

If they are the same as the ones in Charleston, S.C., they suck! I believe they are sand gnats, and unlike a mosquito which is essentially a flying hypodermic needle, the sand gnats take a bite out of your skin, which is more irritating apparently. Little bastards! But I hear if you cover your skin in mayonaise and sit out in the sun, the new bugs you attract will take your mind off of those bug bites.

You have prepared well for this weekend, and you will succeed. You can't train any more for it, so just rest, hydrate, stretch, maintenance run, and relax. Besides, it sounds like Tiff's after party will make the run worth it!

I'm so jealous that you are going up on Thursday! I had to change my flight to get in on Friday instead due to work issues. Good luck and hope to see you Sunday at the post-race get together!

I hate those no-see-um things. They are worse then mosquitoes to me because they can hurt and not just itch.

You running plan this week sounds perfect!

that looks pretty out there...i couldn't have dealt with a hot tent and all that sand, though (hope they don't draft me to go to iraq).

i think you're going to be fine come sunday. awesome, even.

try antihistamines for the itching.

I'm in the same boat you are, Jess! I feel perfectly fit, but am worried I have somehow forgotten how to run due to my hip injury. I need to re learn how to do it this week.

And just as you said, theres no point in worrying, right?

Positive thinking about your IT band will get you through it with no problems! I think you're doing the right thing. Just keep scratching away, keeping any negativity for the race out of your mind.

I sure do hope your first order of business after you get home is to give us a report! I'll be waiting anxiously to see how well it goes for you, which I am positive it will be perfect!!

Jess, you will do great! Bug bites SUCK. Calamine lotion and oatmeal baths will help with itching.

That's definitely the right mindset to have. You're healthy, no IT problems. Why worry about having them during the race.

Try not to be too stressed out this week. You will rock the race!
