Car Seat Installation

Today, Jerry and Scooter installed Norah's car seat base in the car. Actually, I think Scooter thought he was going for a ride, and without thumbs, I don't think he really helped Jerry much. But he did get to see Jerry squat in the base in order to apply enough pressure to pull the straps tight enough.
It only took Jerry a few minutes to install it, which was a relief to him since every other baby thing has required quite a bit of assembly and subsequent cursing, and he wasn't looking forward to putting the car seat in on a 90 degree day.
After he had the base installed, I practiced taking the car seat in and out a few times to make sure I got the hang of it. It's a bit awkward, and clearly, it will be harder for me to lift once there's a baby in there, but I also won't have an extra 20 lbs out in front of me either, so I think the effort will balance out.

Now, with just 4 weeks remaining until my due date, the only baby task left is to pack the hospital bag. Then, I guess we twiddle our thumbs and wait.

Too exciting!! Car seats are the most awkward and difficult thing due to the height of the seat and having to dislocate your shoulder to get it out at that weird angle, etc. (granted, totally necessary). Plus, evidently, I need a new car before I can have a baby because my backseat (I have an flippin' SUV!) barely fits a car seat in the middle seat. Bottom line--we have a lot of saving to do!!

So exciting that you are getting to the final details!

it takes about 1 or 2 times to put it in/out and then it'll be second nature.

Thankfully Scooter was supervising or the pictures wouldn't have been posted yet.

This was a similar scene at our house about 3 weeks ago... although, my hub was not able to fully squat in the base but he had one full foot in there... then he had to repeat the process in my car! And now... I am doing that twiddling of the thumbs you speak of. Gee willickers!

Scooter doesn't need thumbs, clearly, he's the supervisor.

those things just keep getting more and more complicated. definately a good idea to practice before you need it!

I think they should show Jerry's squat position in the installation manual - too funny!

hint- and i only learned of this when i got to the hospital...pack some 'comfort' food for after the birth because as you may know, hospital food sucks. I was lucky enough that my hospital provided you with a whole sleeve of oreos but some of the new mothers had packed all kinds of treats...

You'll get used to it, but I didn't use the baby bucket for very long. It was just too much of a pain.

I thought of you guys when I was sitting in Shoo's carseat yesterday, reinstalling it into our jeep. You're just doing the first of many installations...

I often wonder how any of us made it to adulthood...

Your comment about all the baby stuff requiring assembly (and thus cursing). I'm imagining a Christmas Eve post in about three years...
