Packing My Bags

So, I started to pack my hospital bagbut I think it will sit open like this until the last minute simply because there's so much I'll probably throw in at the last minute: camera, cosmetics, snacks. So, packing my stuff took about 5 minutes: 2 changes of clothes, nursing bras, nightgown, slippers, etc , but deciding on what to bring for the baby took decidedly more time. Following a suggested list, I packed some swaddling blankets and burp clothes, but when it came time to deciding on which outfit we should bring her home in, I was kinda stumped. So, I ended up packing 3 outfits!

The first is this yellow ducky ensemble that has a matching hat and booties:
I know you're wondering, why yellow? Well, a colleague of mine told me it's good luck, no matter the baby's sex, to bring a baby home in yellow. So, Jerry and I had settled on this outfit long ago (Jerry has a particular affinity for baby animals on baby outfits, and he seems to especially favor ducks), but as I was packing it yesterday, I thought to myself: "What if the size is slightly off? What if she doesn't look good in yellow? What if I just plain want her in something else?"

Silly, yes, but I wouldn't label myself the most rational of people right now. So, I picked out two other onesies (and matching socks) to bring along as back ups. This one:
And this one:

They are all close to the same size, but each has a slight variation either in length or width, and frankly, I think I will want to decide on the appropriate color in the moment, and like any woman, I need choices. Logically, I know that we live less than 5 miles from the hospital, and Jerry will probably go home at some point and will be able to pick up anything we need; still, my crazy preggo brain insists that this selection of outfits is critical right now.

Of course, with 3 outfits packed to chose from, it now seems highly probably that we'll just bring her home naked, wrapped in a blanket.

I don't know if the yellow is "Lucky" but it does remind me of beer. That's good - right?

I have such a weakness for baby socks. I just want to eat them up.

I really like the yellow duckies, but I agree it never hurts to have options!

I packed a couple too. It's not a crazy thing. Remember, they have to come out of the blanket to go in the car seat ;) Burritos don't belt well.

you are smart to pack that many baby outfits. you'll end up changing her out of 10 of those onesies a day when she pukes on herself. it's a ton of fun.

This is so cute. I definitely could see myself having the same dilemma. I mean, really- you've never seen the kid before, how are you going to know what outfit will suit her best? :)

I think I brought several outfits and ended up bringing baby home in the t-shirt they put him in at the hospital!

A girl should always have a wide selection of clothes and accessories to choose from. You guys are starting her off on the right foot...whatever color that may be!

I like all 3 outfits and I like that you're giving yourself options. Makes sense to me.

Okay, kinda gross, but my sister read a book that was something like, "Girlfriend's guide to birth" (probably off). Anyway, in it, it said to pack extra pairs of socks for yourself. This kind of grosses me out, but apparently, blood may drip down your leg.

Sorry, nasty, I know.

Cute outfits! I honestly can't remember what I brought Jones home in. Sigh, mommy brain. With Shoo, I didn't have to pack. ;o)

Things I wish I brought - comfy dark sweatpants(although it was feb), cozy big shirts... cute outfits you picked out!

If you have anything in a "newborn" size versus "0-3 months" I'd bring that! We brought Brooke home in a "newborn" outfit and it was still huge on her (and she wasnt a small baby).

I never changed out of my hospital gown while I was there, so I didnt need clothes ... but the one thing I couldnt have lived without is my laptop! Dont forget it ;)

So...what is Jerry packing in his bag? Walter packed a loaf of bread and lunchmeat. I think he thought he was going to a pot luck or something...

All three outfits are adorable!

No matter what outfit Norah comes home in she will be absolutely adorable.

Three outfits is totally understandable.

I would pack snacks too - you can never have enough snacks. My sister craved an In-n-out burger after she gave birth.
