One More Thing

An unexpected difficulty about running while pregnant is somewhat unexpected, but incredibly simple:

Bending over to tie my shoes.

It's not easy at this stage since I have a bowling ball out in front of me that makes bending over kinda difficult in general. Most of the time, I sit on the floor to put my shoes on, but as of late, that's not making it that much easier. Instead, I find that the easiest way is to sit and slip them on, then stand and put my foot on a chair so that I can not only bend my leg closer to me, but so that I can also maneuver the belly around the bent leg.

Running shoes and bowling shoes are the only kinds of shoes I own that require tying; almost all of my other shoes are slip on shoes (and to be honest, I wear flip flops about 90% of the time), but I only bowl once a week; I run about 4 days a week.

Clearly, this is one more reason why I need some helpful gnomes around here -- they'd be the perfect size for helping me out on this one!

My husband took a picture of me in the hospital getting ready to leave tying my own shoes for the first time in months. :) If I see any gnomes who are looking for jobs, I'll send them your way.

LOL! I totally remember those days!

You might want to consider investing in elastic laces. With all the older people in Florida, they must sell them there. Then you can tie then once and just slip them on and off. I use those for triathlon transition, but also have used them when my back was bothering me and could see how they would be useful for pregnant ladies or people with arthritis!

I was going to do the elastic laces that Lisa suggested ... they are also great for long runs since you feet expand so much. I never did it though, and didnt run when pregnant so I didnt have the same challenge (I used slip ons!).

I say have Jerry tie your shoes :-)

I wore Teva sandals (with the velcro straps) for the last three months of my pregnancy (both times).

Get some Yankz!

I use them on all my shoes - well, not my dress shoes - but if I could...

OR follow Alice's advice. I mean, he kind of played a role in your current condition!

good idea on the gnomes...they could probably do other household chores for you too, like folding the laundry or unloading the dishwasher...

Haha, if you have a second one, you'll have to wait unitl you can teach the first one to tie your shoes for you!

Oh yes, I remember that squished feeling. I had to wear socks and shoes to work some days and the socks were the hard part. I stuck to slip ons as much as possible. Shaving your legs in the shower becomes a chore too. You are in the home stretch now. Over half way there!

Oy I remember that. I just got a pair of Nike Prestos during pregnancy. They're super ugly but what the hell did I care? No laces and they're comfy LOL

Perhaps it is time for Velcro...or some of those triathalon speed laces.

Or barefoot?!

I think everyone could use a few helpful gnomes :)

Didn't anyone tell you...that is why preggo women wear slip-ons! (Don't think you can run in those.)

I was going to suggest Yankz or Speed Laces - then you can just pull your runners on!
