Papers in Excess

There's this Showtime show we have been watching, via Netflix, called "Dead Like Me," and one of the characters is a college English professor. And in one episode, he remarks: "I have 20 papers to read tonight and they all suck -- so leave me alone." Yeah, that's pretty much me tonight. Except instead of 20 papers, I have 40. Well...it's whittled down to about 20 by now but I'm still eyeball deep in them, and at this point, I am seriously considering Jerry's idea of randomly assigning them letter grades. Seriously, I gotta learn to create less work for myself.

Anyway, between paper reading, I did manage to get almost everything done that I needed to for Saturday's baby shower (excluding the shopping, cooking, and cleaning of the house -- those chores I reserve for the day before because it makes my life exciting), and I got a 3 mile run in. Times weren't great (overall time of 29:05), but I'll take it.

In other news, I feel obligated to confess to you that I have fallen ass-backwards off the no-soda wagon. For the past few weeks, I have even been driven to steal some of the hubby's Diet Cokes on occassion, and today I broke down and bought a 6-pack of my beloved Diet Pepsi (the mini-cans). I admit it. I am drawn to the deliciously sweet and scrumptously fizzy soda. Especially when I'm at school. Or when I'm reading papers...

Oh, paper grading . . . that is an endurance sport all to itself! I found that it was good to limit the liquids when engaged in grading to limit the stops along the way (which are more of a hassle than when running, since you have to unload whatever pile of stuff is on your lap!). May the force be with you!

Better to be drinking soda while grading papers than alcohol. Maybe you would enjoy the grading more with alcohol though.

3 miles in 29:05 is perfectly fine for training.
Try to bring some papers with you on your run...you can bang a bunch out while you are getting your exercise in. :)

How about you just switch to coffee instead? That way you'll still get your caffeine yet won't be drinking soda :P

This post make me take note that my poor English prof had to read all my crappy papers. So, sorry....

The first step is admitting you have a problem. :-P

Can't be perfect. I have a decent diet and I excercise. Pop is my downfall...and all that diet crap is prob horrible for me. But I don't smoke, barely drink, eat well, and excercise. I have to find somewhere to have a flaw..haha did you feel different when you werent drinking it?

I think cutting down on soda is the way to go, rather than cutting it out completely. Perhaps if you cut down to just one per day, you'll eventually quit altogether if that's your goal.

Paper reading...

Ugh.

At least you got the mini cans of the soda instead of the big gulps. Good luck with all those papers!

Hello, my name is Sam and I'm addicted to soda. I’m sure you’re like me and can give it up anytime.

I do a bit of random assignments with paper grading. I read them all at skim-level, then put them in a pile from best to worst. I give the best A's ... and then re-read the middle ones to see if they are B or C level ... and give the bottom C's. I generally dont give D's or F's on a paper unless its just clearly off-base. So yeah, a bit of randomness to it :)

Just pick out your fav students and give them "A's", give the ok students "C's" and the shitheads get a "D" or "F." Make it simple. Of course I say this becuase I was always the teacher's favorite :)

You deserve your DP...drink up!

eh. I just randomly assign grades to students. That way, I can devote my life to complaining about their laziness. ah, sweet irony.
