Hump Day

I had another non-eventful, yet productive day today: still working on that damn pile of student papers, cleaned the house, did the laundry, and paid some bills. As I mentioned in my post last night, I finished "Pillars" yesterday, so I was left without a book today. Part of me was thinking of going to Barnes and Noble and buying a few new ones, but then a larger part of me was lazy and didn't feel like leaving the house. So, I stole a book off the hubby's stack and started that.

It's the first in Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series: "The Gunslinger." I've always wanted to read the series, but have never gotten around to it, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. I'm about 70 pages in, and honestly, I don't think much of it. Although, I have heard that the first volume is not that great, supposedly you're supposed to give the series a few volumes before it really gets good. Which I'm not so sure about. I think I'll finish this one see how it ends before giving more in the series a go.

This evening, I went for a 6 miler, but I didn't realize that the Garmin was low on battery life, so after 3 miles, it pooped out on me. So no splits to report. However, I can tell you that the run felt good, and I mostly felt like I was on auto-pilot, so I guess that's a testament to how smoothly it went.

One thing I have noticed in the last few days, though, is that it has been extremely humid here. On my past few runs, I've been sweatin' buckets. Reminds me that soon we'll be moving into "rainy season" (aka, the god-awful-heat-of-summer). Blech. Here, the seasons are so the opposite in pleasantness compared to northern states: everyone else is looking forward to spring and summer, and here in FL, we're sad to see the temperate winter months start to fade away.

It sounds like you are really getting some good "jess" time during your spring break! I think that's perfect! Hope the book gets better :)

I know what you mean. I too was sweating big time w/my run last night and I ran at 8:30 at night. I'm not looking forward to the heat wave except then the pool will be heated again.

I want to sweating too when I am outside and not under three layers of running gear. (sigh) Please share the heat!

Enjoy your break!

The Gunslinger series is a tough nut to crack but once you get through the first book it really takes off, I cheated and went with the talking book option in the car which made it a lot easier, good on the old iPod as well

I used to have a fascination with Stephen King books, but never got into them once I started reading. I'm wondering how you can deal with your student stuff and also read books of your own. I always seem to be reading something for school, unless of course I am catching up on blogs. Nice run!

I read the Dark Tower series way back in the day and LOVED it. Give it a chance!

You know Jess, I really want to have sympathy for you, honestly I do. But I don't!! :)
Nice job on the six miles and enjoy the rest of your Spring Break.

Ahhhhh see this totally is similar to what I wanted to ask you about. Perfect!

The Tudors. You watched all episodes of the first season, right? To my surprise one of the On Demand channels are showing the first season for free (edited of course *rolls eyes* so no boobie and bun action for me LOL) I watched the first episode last night and I just thought "eehhhh ok" I think I'm having a hard time with JRM being the King Henry. So anyway, does it get better? I assume so, since it's a given as to what happens LOL

As for the book? Stick with it and see if it gets any better. I think I'll do the same ;-)

Hey Jess - I'm a lurker and have enjoyed your blog for a while now. Love the diversity of your life! At the risk of sounding like an ad (which this is not, I swear), I think you should check out www.bookswim.com. It's like NetFlix for books - swexcellent for those of us who can't get enough books. Enjoy!

Man, you've been productive. I wonder if there is a pill for that?

Sheesh, I would have been ass deep into a couch cushion by now if I were you!

Hope the reading picks up - that's one reason I dropped SK as well. Too many books not "grabbing me" as well as others.

Happy SPRING :-)!

nice to know that I'm not the only one with a stack of papers to grade

Your 6 miler sounds great. Bummer about the humidity. That's what summers are like here, and they suck.

Sounds like spring break is going well for you. I'm still jealous! Nice job on the six-miler. Nothing feels better than being able to cruise through a run

As a Louisiana person, I can sympathize. It has been humid as hell here and I know that is just a piece of what is to come. Sigh.

First of all, let me tell you I feel so bad for you running in your humidity and all the sweating you are doing. My heart bleeds. (hahaha). I sweat when I run too, because I am wearing long underwear, gloves, and two jackets. Second, I was sure you were going to say that when your Garmin stopped, you did too. That would have been what I did :)

I hope that book gets better for you. It is prolly the size on an encyclopedia :-O
Keep enjoying your break!
