Oops, I Did It Again

I'm keeping my weekly runs short this week, in part because I'm tapering and in part to ease the strain on my left IT band, so again this evening, I did 3 miles. And I didn't really even want to do that.

See, it's been a busy week so far and I've had non-stop activity since Monday morning, so when I got home this afternoon and slumped into the comfy chair, all I wanted to do was stay there and watch VH1's "Britney's Most Shocking Moments" (seriously, that girl...) and lull myself into a TV-induced coma. Eventually, I knew I could sit there no more, so I reluctantly pulled on my running clothes and got out there. Now, normally even when I don't feel like running at first, I usually get warmed up and, after a mile, I start enjoying myself, but tonight, that was not the story.

Oh, I went the full 3 miles, and yes, my knee was kind to me and gave me no pain whatsoever, yet I never found the run's mojo. So I slogged through it and was pleased that I just got it done. But to top off the craptastic run, there was, well, some crap.

I got back in the house and headed for the bedroom, walked into the closet and started untying my shoes when the stink hit me: It smelled like turd. "Fuck," I cursed silently, "Did Scooter have mud butt again?" A quick glance around told me, "no." And then I thought to turn my shoe over -- there was the source of the shit. I'd stepped in it.

And walked all the way across the house.

Oopsie.

That's a shitty end to a story. At least you have a lot of hardwood floors, right? Better than all carpet. But now you will wonder when you walk around barefoot, at least for a while.

Good job on completing the run, though!

OMG! Poor Jess. I just read your post, turned to David and said "Jess's world is full of shit, isn't it". Like he said, at least you have hardwoods. Oh my...

So hard doing a run you don't want to, so great job on that, even if you never warmed up. You can check that run off your plan.

between the title and the tone of that last paragraph I expected an entirely different ending...stepping in shit sucks, I guess it isn't good luck like when a bird shits on you.

Good job on just getting your miles in. I have a lot of those runs, but have been having some better ones recently, too. Thank God!

Sorry about the crap, that sucks.

I love that you swear silently, but type it out for us, just in case we were wondering. :)

Hi Jess. I finally popped over after meaning to for ages... I see you on Wendy's blog daily. You and I have a lot in common! I love all your movies and most of your music faves on your profile. I was an English/Lit major in college, had intended to teach high school but changed my mind in late Jr year, but did teach 3 years of non-credit college comp--you know, the classes for kids whose writing is so bad they don't qualify for 101 and come out of high school writing in sentence fragments? Yeah, it was fun. But it was one class only and a part-time gig, nothing like what you do.

Anyway, hope the IT pain is better and you are getting excited about Chicago. I look forward to reading more of your stuff.

I totally stepped in shit today too! We had a fire drill and had to walk out to the grass--have no idea of the source. I just know it was gross. At least I didn't bring it home with me.

Jess, we have much in common. First, our love of all things poop. Second, I stepped in dog shit the other day but thank god I realized it before walking into my apartment. Still, it was all stuck in my running shoe and smelled...well, like shit!

You're fine taking it easy during the taper, by the way. Your body is ready by this time -- so being conservative is smart!

Yeah, I saw the Brit thing. Love it.
