Got My Hairs Cut

I'm extremely lazy about my hair, and I really only go for about 2 looks. Long (ie, haven't bothered to cut it in about 8 months): And short (ie, sick of the long stuff and ready for a fresh look):
On Wednesdays, I only teach one class, so my schedule allowed me a little extra time in the afternoon, and I went in and got it chopped down to the second look: Nice and short (but still long enough I can manage to pull it back while running).
This got me thinking of a few Jess-hair facts:
  • This is my natural color: dark brown.
  • It's naturally straight. And a bit on the fine side.
  • I have a few grays sprouting up, but they honestly don't bother me.
  • I can't even manage the most simple styling techniques, like round-brushing. I literally let my hair air dry every day, and rarely ever use any product.
  • I pay $55 for a haircut.
  • Kinda pricey.
  • But, I really like the stylist: She's fast, she's good, she always remembers specifics about me even though I'm an infrequent customer, and she keeps the chit-chat to a minimum.
  • I tip the stylist $10 and her assistant $5.
  • The tip I pay equals the total cost of the haircuts Jerry gets at Super Cuts or wherever he goes.
  • But, I get my hair cut like twice, maybe three times, a year. His hair grows at a fast, bushy rate so he has to get his cut every 6 weeks or so. Therefore, over the long term, my expensive cuts are actually less expensive.

So, what's your comparison? Do you get your hair cut frequently to maintain its style? Color it? How much time/effort/product do you invest in your hair? How much do you pay for its maintenance? Are you loyal to a stylist or do you go anywhere?

When my girl cuts my hair she always asks jokingly, "You want me to pull these grey hairs, or you wanna take care of them later!" But like you, I really don't care.

I LOVE it! It brightens up your face :)f

Jerry is already causing gray hairs? I guess air in the BOB tires was only the tip of the iceberg! Then again, I guess it could be those darn students of yours... :-)

Love the cut! I have very curly hair so when I find someone that can cut it the right way I stick with them...like I drive 2 hours now to continue to go to my guy!! That means I also only get my hair cut and colored every 5 months or so. To be honest if I didn't have it highlighted I would probably go longer than that. It takes a long time to do because it is so thick so I have to carve out a chunk of time. My hubby on the other hand has a shaved head so his cost ZERO dollars. $200 twice a year is definitely more!

I usually either trim it myself or have my wifey trim it. I keep it really short though, so it's easy. Back when I went somewhere, it was usually one of the cheap places and I wasn't loyal. Where ever was most convenient.

Your hair looks cute.

I get mine cut every few months or so. I've gotten highlights before but haven't in a while. I do use product because my hair is curly and looks really bad if I don't. But it takes me about 2 minutes because I just air dry it.

I'm very similar to you in that mine goes from long to short and the growth period in between due to basically sheer laziness and lack of time. I'm also a natural brunette, but unfortunately I have my dad's premature gray hair (first one was spotted at 22, and now at 28 I have quite a few), so I usually make it in when the grays become too obvious. I always see the same girl, and probably pay way too much ($120ish for cut and highlights). I cheated on her once with some one else in the salon, and loved the other guy better, so now I'm debating on what to do for my next appointment. I feel like an adulterer (sp?)

I am completely hair incompetent too. I end up wearing my hair in a ponytail 98% of the time. And only get it cut when I can't stand it anymore.

I usually only cut my hair once or twice a year, and I also have the same two looks: long (aka ponytail) and short/bob.

When I find myself getting to the point where my LONG hair is in a pony every.single.day I usually go for a big chop so I CAN'T wear a pony, and then I regret it. It's a great cycle...

P.S. Your hair looks great!

Love the new cut! It looks great! For the past two years I have been cutting my husband's hair to save money. He's a cop and former Marine though, so a buzz cut is so simple even I can't mess it up! And I am very lucky that my best friend is a hair stylist! She comes to my house and cuts and colors my hair. I just pay for the hair color and occasionally get her gifts, pay for dinner, whatnot for her services, she won't take any money from me.

Ha! Sounds like I wrote this entry, almost me to the T. The only difference is that I have to blow dry my hair so I am envious of you being able to air dry! I get the case of frizzies really bad but I am not good with any styling technique other than flipping my hair upside down and literally with my fingers drying my hair. Also, my hair is usually cut the same way as yours, has to be long enough to pull back at least half up!

I love your new haircut! I use to have long hair and I needed haircuts much more often. My stylist is a great friend of mine so she comes to my house and only costs me $10 plus a tip!

My haircuts cost about $45 with tip, but I try to only cut 2-3 times a year, too. And I also rarely use product and let my hair air dry.

I cut my boyfriend's hair... been doing it since last year. Luckily, it just involves plowing most of it off with the shaver and then touching up with a scissor. I should start charging...

Love the haircut! Having it long enough to tie is CRITICAL.

I love the haircut! I wish I could airdry and go, but unfortunately I have to either blowdry or airdry and run a flat iron through it.

I always go to Aveda salons (the real Aveda salons where the stylists are trained at Aveda), because I've usually had really good luck with haircuts there. I pay about $45 but I go only a few times a year as well. I cut DH's hair at home with clippers. I've gotten pretty good at it and there are few "uh ohs" these days. He needs it every 4-5 weeks, so it definitely saves some $$.

Have had short hair for over a dacade so decided to grow it. Now it LONG and i have to straighten it everyday as its a flipping kinky mess if i don't. I dye it myself. I have too much grey for 33, that isn't why i dye it though, i just prefer myself with darker brown that my natural colour. I pay £23 for my cut and go every 8 weeks - if i find a good stylist i will stick with her, i just moved here so unsure right now.

I'm a loyal customer. Though, ironically, I just switched barbers due to location. I was driving a half hour to my old barbers and there is an old-timer within a five-minute walk from home. My barbers have always complimented my hair, but this guy won me over by claiming he could win contests with my hair. Costs me $12 every 6-8 weeks. Cheers!

The cut looks terrific!

As for me, my hair is pony-tail long...first time in 35 years. I considered chopping it off about 4 or 5 months ago, but that changed when I started using Moroccanoil products. So much easier to manage!

I love both looks on you! The short one looks sophisticated and edgy in a good way and the longer hair is fun, flirty and younger look. both work for you!

I'm also a 2 or 3 times a year hair cut person too. My hair is very curly after kids so I do need a little product for managability but as long as it can go in a pony in the hat or short enough to not rub the back of my neck in a hat while running I'm a happy camper. AND the girl who cuts my hair does a great job and because its out of her house its only $15 with a $5 tip.

Love the short 'do!! You are so pretty!

I spend far too much time and money on my hair... I would probably be a millionaire by now if I invested all the money I put towards my hair every month!

I get it cut and highlighted every 8-10 weeks. A cut costs about $55 and the highlights are around $150 so including tip I spend $250 every 8 weeks.

I can't let me hair air dry as it looks hideous if I do. It dries in a million directions and is straight but kinks in places. I have to round brush it every day which is time consuming and hurts my arms.

I am envious of your nice hair!

I get my hair cut rarely. The last time it had been years (thus the cut hair was 18" long and donated). I don't like the fuss so I only go if forced to by my (beautican!) mother (who refuses to cut my hair). And lately I've been thinking I need to go get it cut because it is growing way too fast. Since my hair is so thick and I left it air dry everyday the longer it gets the longer it takes to dry. Somedays I go home from work and the hair at my neck is still damp. Ugh. I might have to get it cut.

I love the short cut. It looks great on you!

Dee Dee gets her hair did every couple of months, and colored 2-3 times a year. I prefer au natural, but I like mine short. I should really cut my own...

I go to the same salon and stylist as you so I am glad you like her too. :) I have been going to her for almost 10 years. I used to get it cut every 5-6 weeks when it was shorter and now it's once every 2-3 months. I am a slave to my hairdryer and round brush. I can do it with my eyes closed. Every now and then I mix it up with a flat iron and some hairspray. That's it for products. I have grey hair coming in (I like to think of it as white highlights). I have not become a slave to haircolor and am au' natural.

Just getting all caught up!
Congrats on Caleb! You look wonderful!
I get my hair cut every 7 weeks, and with tip it's $70, I can handle that. I also don't like to mess with my hair too much, I'm just pathetic with a hair brush ;)

Oh it looks great!! I cannot even believe you have fine hair, it looks so thick in all of your pictures.

Mine is baby fine and super thin, I swear, I am going to start balding! I am currently growing it out, so haircuts are only every 10-12 weeks with just some cleaning up of the ends (my addiction to my straightener causes massive frizzies) and fix my bangs.

I'm a haircolor virgin though! Never even highlights.

Very cute cut, I only seem to get mine cut about twice a year, but I dye my hair every 6 weeks to 2months as i am getting pretty gray . Both my parents are premature grays and I found my first gray when I was only just 19. With each child I have gotten grayer. But when I colour my hair I do it myself, I probably spend about 60.00 a year on hair colour, but my hair dresser is amazing and she charges about 45.00 for a cut. I cut my kids hair and my husband shaves his own. Although my oldest is getting to the age where she wants her hair to be like all the celebs so I just may start to take her to my girl.

Your hair is so cute everytime you get it cut! Until last year, I've gone my entire life afraid of chemicals in my hair since the bad perm of 1995 and just bounced around hair stylists. Once I started the highlights though, I'm sucked in forever to the same stylist every 4 months or so. I love my hair and my stylist, but I DREAD the 3+ hours it takes to get cut and highlighted. I'd literally rather go to the dentist.

Nice! The short hair suits you **said in the least creepy way possible**

Meh, I go back and forth on my hair. I used to go to a real live salon, but now I just go where ever. I think I take too many vitamins though, because I have to get mine cut every 4 weeks. It is annoying - and pretty expensive at 15 bucks a pop

I cut a color my hair every 8-12 weeks. Auburn hair is a b**** to maintain especially in the summer. I tend to spend a pretty penny for both so it's well worth it. :)

I should be ashamed of this, but Ican't remember my last hair cut.

Apparently, I also don't know how to use the space bar properly. (see my previous comment)

I don't want to admit to how much I spend on my hair, but it includes color or I'd look like a skunk, so I pay for color about every four weeks and a cut every three months... The cut is about the same cost, but my stylist doesn't have an assistant, so there's only one tip (but I do tip her well!)

You look fabulous!

I'm very loyal to my stylist. About 6 years ago I bought some clippers and I shave my head every 2-3 weeks. Cost: $0. Tip: $0.

love your haircut. I airdey and prob get my hair cut at supercuts 1/2x a year at this point!

love the cut!!

I used to never get my hair cut and then I finally found someone I liked (and could afford) and have been going every 8-10 weeks now. The shorter style (and bangs) need the constant attention AND I just started coloring my hair (dark brown/red tint) too which makes the need to go more often :)

Once every 4-6 weeks, $50, my guy is an hours drive and I have been going to him for 10+ years and now he does or boys too

You can't beat a good bob, it's one of the hardest cuts out there due to the accuracy needed
