2011 Goals

Resolutions? I make none, but goals, goals I can aspire to. With a new baby due in May, 2011 is bound to be both an exciting and challenging year, so I don't want to box myself in with goals that are too far-reaching. But, I've been thinking about what I want to accomplish in 2011, and I've come up with a few things to strive for:

Personally
  • Enjoy the remainder of this pregnancy. With Norah, I was so excited and eager to have her born, I feel as though I willed that pregnancy to just be done with, and it wasn't until she was born, that I realized how special pregnancy is. This time around, I'm trying to appreciate it.
  • Make more time for dates with Jerry. As parents, it's easy to lose track of time, and at the end of the week, it's often just easiest to order Chinese, rent a movie On Demand, and call that a date. But as nice as nights like that are, I need to make the time and effort to get a babysitter and actually go sit across a table from Jerry and eat real food and have real conversations.
  • Read more books. I got a Nook for Christmas this year, and I'm eager to give e-reading a go! Plus, several friends got Nooks, so hopefully, we can take advantage of the lend option and save ourselves some book buying.
  • Financially, I want to pay off our car loan.

Professionally

  • Serve on two committees, either departmental or college-wide.
  • Put real effort into applying for either a Classroom Reasearch Award or the Endowed Teaching Chair. Both of these options offer professional recoginition and cash awards.
  • Publish another short story.

Running

  • Run consistently for as long as I'm able during this pregnancy.
  • Run some preggo races.
  • Run a fall or early winter HM.

So, there ya go. 2011, here I come!

remember having 2 kids running around is trouble squared, not trouble times two. it increases exponentially. Have a great 2011 Jess!

Great goals! I hope to run RnR Miami with you in December. I am leaning towards that especially with the knee issues.

I've been a lurker on your blog for quite a while and I just had to share something.

I noticed in a post from a while back that you mentioned that your husband was from Northfield. This was too funny to me because that's where I grew up and went to college, and I now live about half an hour away.

So, I turned to what any normal person would turn to -- Facebook stalking. Thanks to the lovely FB, I discovered that I was friends in high school with one of your sisters-in-law (Carrie) and that my sister Andrea was in the wedding of another of your sisters-in law (Angie & Jeremy's).

Anyway, I love these "it's a small world" moments and thought I would share it and let you know that I really enjoy your blog - you are a talented writer and I always get a laugh from your posts.

Good luck with your 2011 goals!

Is it awkward of me to say that I cannot wait for December so I can read how you did on all of these?!?

Best of luck to you in 2011!

Great goals! I totally wished Shoo's pregnancy away (the 9 months of heartburn and night time puking might have had something to do with it) and I sometimes wish I could go back and relive those last couple of weeks.

Sounds like you have a great 2011 ahead of you.

I love your goals for 2011, especially date night with Jerry. Enjoy the time you can to get out of the house before the little guy is born!
