Random Stuff

First, let me address a few questions/comments about the Baby Bjorn post from yesterday:

1. Yes, I vacuumed with her right there and she didn't wake up. Personally, I think life should carry on as normal when a baby is sleeping and this includes not shielding her from loud background noises. I don't want a light sleeper; I want to train this kid to sleep through Armageddon! Also, I read that most babies find the normal white noises of machines (vacuum, washer, dryer, dishwasher, A/C, etc) to be soothing, not disruptive to their sleep.

2. Yes, bending over is tricky because you don't want the baby to slide right out onto her skull. When I had to bend down, I braced her head with my free hand. I also discovered that I am capable of picking up many items with my toes.

Okey-dokey, that's it.

Yesterday was a pretty uneventful day. Norah pooped on her changing table as I was changing her -- it kinda shot outta there like champagne pops out of a freshly uncorked bottle. It got on my hand and was gross. And that was pretty much the story of my day.

Well, that, and I cried when I thought my BlackBerry was dead (turns out the battery was just dead and needed a full recharging). These post-partum hormones are a real bitch to deal with: One minute I'm Sally-Happy-Pants, the next I'm Debbie-Downer. Oh well, the crying wasn't a big deal; turns out I just needed some Jer-Bear cuddling and a bowl of chocolate ice cream. Then I felt better.

It's part of the new mom initiation to be pooped on. It will happen again. Then there's pee and puke. Once you have all three, you get your "brownie" pin...or something like that. LOL!!

people are very bossy about what others should do with their own baby. just don't bring a baby to a rock show, or the movies, or a broadway play. but a vaccum in your own home should be alright.

I was the "shhhhh the baby is sleeping" kind of mom and I sort of regret it now. They wake up really easy and I sometimes wonder if I trained them that way from when they were babies. Your smart!

Your posts make me laugh and remember what those first few weeks were like!

I have a little boy, so there was a lot of peeing on me at first (nobody told me I should cover him up with a new diaper immediately after removing the old one!).

Also, it was always funny when Andrew would pull his legs up while peeing and then the pee would get all over his face and in his hair.

Being a mommy is fun and sounds like you are doing great at getting back into things!

Did you decide on the running yet?

Slide a new diaper under the baby before you open the old one. Sometimes they let it fly as soon as you get that diaper off. Your dead on about the noise.

haha that made me laugh with that cahmpagne analogy! :)

glad you are surviving with ice cream! :)

My dad said he used to hold me football-style under his arm and vacuum because it would put me to sleep. I'm sorry about the hormones, but glad that the cuddles and ice cream were good medicine for you.

Choco ice cream fixes everything! And I am in awe of your ability to tackle everything around you - nice job on the baby Bjorn and vacuming, I will have to remember this when I finally decide to push one out myself! :)
Thanks for all the realness in your posts lately - sugar coating the whole experience for us non-baby people really won't help us in the long run! Happy Wednesday! :)

Can't believe I haven't even seen her yet! Bet she is growing so much. I have no free time doing day care everyday. When I'm done I crash. I am not as young as I used to be that is for sure.
Anyway, hope to meet Norah soon.

Yes, yes, yes on number one. Shoo's room is right next to our neighbor's porch. They like to stay out late talking and listening to music, pretty much year round. Thankfully, this has resulted in a kid that will sleep through pretty much anything.

I remember crying over such minor things when I was PP with Shoo (with Jones I had PPD and pretty much just cried non-stop) and poor Beer Geek never knew quite what to do.

Very talented with your multi-tasking!

I had a 'cry' day on Monday out of nowhere and I can't even blame it on PP! Glad you felt better with some cuddles & ice cream!

Love the new profile pic. You two look great together! Glad everything is going pretty well. I had a hard time with all the poop and spit up when my little guy was young. Now I think I am immune after 4 years, cause he puked at the dinner table after trying spinach and it didn't phase me at all.

That infant rocket poop is the worst! Ice cream therapy really is the cure for everything.

We were on vacation a couple of years ago and the hotel fire alarm went off...scared the begeezus out of me, and my husband, and my daughter (then 11ish). My 8 year old son slept right though it (and it was LOUD!)

Maybe I did too good of a job having the second one sleep thought noise?

my friends use a vacuum to stop their baby from crying... its like magic. they even have a radio thing that makes vacuum sounds. when we babysat him we couldnt get him to stop crying so we just turned it on and sat there with the vacuum running for like 30 min :)

Ice cream always seems to do the trick for me too!

Yep, I totally agree with the noise while sleeping thing -- you are saving yourself a world of trouble in the furture -- my brother and his wife went the quite route and now their kids have to have perfect conditions or no one gets to sleep...

haha...so funny, i have been home since 2pm today with our little one and already cried once really bad...these hormones are ridiculous! but i can recognize when i have to pull it together so that's a good thing...!

I'm currently hating Blackberry cuz the damn thing keeps erasing all my text messages and everything from the call log. Totally pissed. Glad to hear yours was just a dead battery issue.

I think my husband believes I'm still having the postpartum hormone mood swings. My youngest was born 6 years ago. LOL. I totally relate about your Blackberry. My digital camera wouldn't turn on this week and I thought it was dead. Nope- I just had to charge it. Doh!

I LOVE reading about other parents who try to keep things reasonable around the house when it comes to napping. We strongly believe in going about our business at a regular volume, even when baby is sleeping. We want a nice portable, sleep anywhere kind of kid!

Make sure you fix yourself a bowl of chocolate ice cream with a whipping cream on the top with a cherry right now !
