Home Alone

Today, Jerry returned to work, so it was my first solo day at home with Norah and Scooter. And so far, I have to say that it has gone well (knock on wood). Not that I thought it would be a disaster with him gone, but certainly, I was a bit nervous knowing that I wouldn't have another person here to fall back on (like, what if she wakes up and starts crying while I'm busy taking a poop? that's a tricky situation).

But, like I said, it has gone smoothly: She, Scooter and I went for a long walk this morning, then while she slept, I got some cleaning done and started some laundry, then this afternoon when she slept again, I was able to sneak a long nap in, and I even got the chance to shower. And, we just got back from another (shorter) walk, so she's conked out again (walking is like a sleep drug to her -- we get as far as crossing the street and it's "lights out for Norah"), and I think I may get a chance to read some blogs here in a minute!

Also, just to give myself some snaps, and additional bragging rights (which I hope Karma doesn't choose to smack me down for this), I have gotten proficient enough at nursing that I can now hold a book and read with one hand while she's feeding (I have also been reading email and texting from my phone while nursing too). This is a major improvement since it makes the time go so much faster. So, I'm still slowly making my way through "The Time Traveler's Wife," and it is excellent; it just may take me awhile longer to finish it!

Glad the day is going great! Insider Mom tip they love the smell of their Mom's poop. It is like flowers to them..LOL! I would bring that bouncy seat on in there with me. Poor kid....Awesome that the nursing is going well, and laundry cleaning. Girl slow it down you are giving me a bad rep and I keep my boobs in my bra.

That sounds like such a great first day home alone! I am terrified of the first day I will be home alone when the baby finally arrives!

You'e a super-mom! Love the multi-tasking. Awesome that you've been able to enjoy some walks, reading, naps and even got some stuff done around the house.

Sounds like a wonderful first day! Yay for nursing one handed and napping while Norah napped!

I'm no expert, but reading and texting while breast feeding sounds like a super talent. Glad she didn't start crying while you were taking a poop :)

Aw, you've got this mommy thing down so far!

I'm sure there will be all sorts of new poop stories to come from you and Norah. You'll be able to stay true to your pre-mommy blog content that way.

You are doing mighty fine. You'll learn its OK for the baby to cry a l'il bit. She'll be OK when you get to her! :-)

awesome! You'll be blogging and nursing in NO time!! LOL! The stroller has always been my go-to when someone is refusing a nap!

YAY! Must be all those endorphins she got while you were running with her... she sounds calm and easy-going!

I'm glad today has been a smooth day for you.

You made it through your first day alone!!! Unfortunately from now on you will have another person with you in the bathroom.

you get bonus points for finding time for a nap. :-)

p.s. Bandit weighs 75+ lbs and sometimes he wants to ride in the car on my lap too. Not good. Hence the partition. :-)

Sounds like the day is going really well. Man you have nursing talent. I never was able to swing holding a book.

If she's awake, bring her with you. If she starts crying, finish it up. At least with crying you know she's breathing. :) I know, I am so practical.

I am glad to see you took a nap though. I made the fatal mistake of trying to do everything but nap during Miller's nap. I felt too guilty by not "contributing" during that time. With #2, it will be different. I promise myself.

LOVED Time Traveller's Wife, but I was awfully confused at first. COngrats on getting the reading/nursing combo down. Hope I can do the same!

Yay! (And of course you have excellent hand/boob coordination. I'd expect nothing less. :o)

Sounds like you are super nursing mom, good for you.

I too am reading Time Travlers Wife, I got about half way on the plane. I haven't picked it up since. I am not as invested, like I usually am with the story I think it's because there is too much jumping around back and forth between characters and dates. (I know, dah hence the time travler thing!)

I remember when Jeff went back to work ... I was pretty nervous too! I think he was more nervous though, he must have called me 10+ times a day during that first week to make sure we were surviving ok at home ;)
