En Fuego

So, have you ever had your oven on broil and you open it, and think to yourself, "Man alive, that feels like the perfect temp to go running in!"?

Yeah, me neither.

But, those are pretty much the conditions here in Florida as of late, and for the past few days, it has been in the mid-90s with humidity and it feels like lake-of-fire heat. And that's not so pleasant to run in.

So yesterday evening, I went out for what I intended to be an 8 miler, but 2 miles in, I felt like I was gonna die. I pushed for another mile, but at 3 miles, I said, "Screw it. I'm heading back." Thus, I ended up only doing 6 miles, and I was so slow in the last two that I just turned off the Garmin because I didn't want to look at it anymore. And I worried it may catch on fire.

Tonight I plan on doing something short once the sun sets, but I'll admit, I'm not looking forward to venturing back out into the inferno. On the plus side, the temps in Denver for the Colfax Half this Sunday are moderate: high of 70 and low of 48. Sweet.

Would you order up some cool weather for my half ironman this weekend? If not, then would you considered running along side of me with a fan? There might be a couple of cases of brewskis in it for ya! ;-)

Yeah, we've been having some nice running weather here lately with the exception of some afternoon wind.

God! That would be horrible if the garmin went up in flames! That heat, and humidity can be the worst to run in!

Hot weather is the worst! So sorry that is the case for you these days. We haven't quite gotten there, but we will. It's right around the corner...

I just saw a runner on the way home that I had to do a double take on. First, I thought she looked like you but then I thought, it's too early for Jess to be running. As I got closer this popped into my head: WHO IN THE HELL RUNS IN BLACK RUNNING PANTS AND A LONG SLEEVE SHIRT WHEN IT'S CLOSE TO 100 DEGREES OUT?!? I knew for sure it wasn't you at that point. That girl must have been begging for heat stroke.

How are the temperature usually in the early morning? You may want to consider running in the morning if you like getting up extra early. I know it difficult to run in the heat. Here in Jersey was 48 degrees and sort of like a hurricane out here this morning.

The heat can really be a downer. Way to battle the heat for 6! Make sure your stay hydrated. On the birght side at least the half isn't down your way.

You're doing better than me. I get about a half mile and want to give up. I think I'm going to run through the ocean tomorrow. Or maybe just put my running shoes on and hang out by the ocean, yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

Your scaring me. i will be in Ft. Lauderdale in July. Geez, that is too hot. I hope it starts cooling for you in the evening. I am sure you will welcome that CO weather.

Yeah, I hear ya. It's supposed to be 102 during race time here on Sunday, oy! I am going to freeze my fuel belt bottles and bike bottles the night before. Watch them not thaw in time and I dehydrate. :>P

AHAHAHHA LMAO! I love it! Good luck dealing with the temps. I don't think it ever gets that hot here in Canada, eh?

We're supposed to get a foot of snow tonight! Glad the race is not tomorrow.

I will not be running, but I might volunteer... I hope I can catch up with you somewhere...

You know that you can do it. I hope you get some extra time in Denver to get used to the higher altitude.

I think you will really enjoy the weather in Colorado.

I can't imagine running the your Florida weather. I'm impressed at your diligence.

I'm heading down to your hot weather on Friday for two days of nonsense at my firm's retreat in Orlando.

IT was a high of 50 here yesterday. The other end of the spectrum isn't much better.

Running in the heat is OK. It's doing other stuff where you don't want to sweat when that heat sucks.
