Sometimes, running is so "zen" for me. There's just some intangible feeling when I'm out there, even on a short run, like this evening's 4 miler, and I'm not thinking anything -- my legs are pumping, my lungs are expanding with the rhythm of my breathing, my heart is thumping, and everything seems to move in sync to the music on the iPod. And there's something almost poetic, or religious, about running when that happens.
And when I finish, I feel hot and tired, but also exhilarated and cleansed. It's a run like this that re-invents my appreciation for the activity and reminds me why I liked this so much in the first place.

That's exactly how I feel about swimming. Running is still a chore to me...maybe some day.
Don't you love when you slip into the zone while running? :)
Looks like a great run!
Yea... :-)
Beautifully said like only you can!
I love that feeling. Very nice even paced run.
I gotta get back to the rink and get some ice time in. I think that's what's missing in my "relaxation, hobby, exercise" department. So far, no other exercise has the appeal you just mentioned.
Nice run. You really hit on one of the reason why I run. Perfectly said.
Oh ya, do you give spelling lessons too? Grammar/grammer, ya I am educated!
And that is the way running should be! Great job!
Ahhh yes. I could've written this post last night (except not as eloquently LOL). It's always so nice when things click together :-)
Exactly!! Running is my happy hour! Running is my only time that I can get away from all. My own mental cleansing! No one can distract you for just one hour. Its my own mediation.
....and THAT is why we go out and lace em up! Couldn't have said it better myself.
It is like a religious experience isn't it? Love it.
I hope my runs are like that!!
You summed it up right there!!
You said it sister!
You really have a gift of describing what's in a lot of our hearts :-).
*cheers* to zen-runners everywhere!
I love this post! Running really is a little state of euphoria... reserved for those who are patient enough to find its awesomeness.
Thats what I luv about running ( an swimming and biking). Sometimes just getting out there is a great way to clear my mind and relax me
