Upcoming Race Plans

So, after much dilly-dallying, I finally committed to a race calendar over the next six months. Nothing too exciting: several 5Ks, the A1A half, and a 4 miler. Info is to the right on the sidebar -- although most of these races are small and don't have actual web pages, so some of the links are dummies.

Further in the future in 2008, I am contemplating a variety of races -- primarily I am thinking about the Boulder Bolder (10K) in May and perhaps the Army 10 miler next October in DC, but because I'd have to travel for those (but stay for free with family), I have to put them on the back burner for now until the hubby approves the 2008 travel budget :) Also under consideration for next year: A1A 15K in October, Lighthouse 10K in November, and the half marathon of the Palm Beaches in December.

As you can see, my interest in the marathon has waned since Chicago, which is fine, and what I'd like to focus on in 2008 are race distances that I haven't done before: 10K, half marathon, 10 miler, 4 milers or 5 milers, etc. The full marathon is still something that I think I will return to at some point (it is, after all, a challenging and rewarding distance), but in the near future, I just don't have any plans for one (because it is also extremely time consuming and exhausting).

Variety is gonna be the name of the game in 2008.

Sounds like a good plan. I go back and forth on the marathon distance. Maybe some day.

It's actually a bunny but the pancake is covering the ears.

I like your plans, I like the shorter distances as well but I have never been a big fan of the 5k.
The Boulder Boulder is a race I have always wanted to run.

I'm also planning on mixing it up with some different distances. A half marathon sounds fun.

Looks like a great plan! Does the Boulder race require special altitude training? I know Denver is a mile high--is Boulder? My BIL lives outside of Golden, so I've been to CO a few times. It's so pretty out there. But I wasn't a runner when I visited, so have never run anything out there and don't know what it's like. I hope you get to run that one!

The Bolder Boulder is the race that first got me into running. I run it every year without fail. I hope that you get to come out here and run it.

The Bolder Boulder is such a fun race - I'd highly recommend it. It is also the race that got me interested in running. The energy and crowd support in that race is amazing!!

I'm very excited about the variety of distances too. Especially cuz they're not over 20 miles. ha ha.

That sounds like a really good plan!

Variety will help keep your interest sharp. I think I want to make a half marathon a goal for next year. I can't see myself doing more than a sprint tri because of the swimming part, but at least I can do some more advanced races in the other disciplines.

Both marathons and short races are challenging -- just in different ways. I found that focusing my efforts on increasing my speed and thus doing shorter races was really the kick in the ass I needed to get into shape and improve my overall running.

Oh, how a few months on the DL can turn that all to shit!
