Previous weight: 118
Weight as of this morning: 118
Yeah, I didn't really expect a change -- mostly because I haven't changed anything about my eating habits, drinking habits, or exercise habits. I figure I will slowly evolve, and I have 3 months, so I'm in no hurry to shed those 5 pounds.
However, I did want to address your comments last week about how "tiny" I am based on the above numbers:
Remember folks, I am short. Really short. I barely skim the height chart at 5 feet, so as I have mentioned before, I am just 3 apples high. Thus, my weight puts me within the normal range for my height. In fact, according to most BMI calculators, I could weigh as little as 95 pounds and still fall within the normal weight range (my current BMI is 23 which is normal too).
So, I know that we often get caught up in weight in terms of its number, but we have to remember what is right for our height and build (I happen to be a descendant of hearty peasant stock -- we Irish are experts at surviving on potatoes and whisky-- so I will never weigh in at a waifish 95 pounds, I can guarantee that). With that practical thought in mind: good luck to the rest of you following along on the weight loss challenge as you face your own numbers on "Moment of Truth Monday"!

It is important to look at how your clothes feel when you are looking at weight loss. I am at the same weight as I was at the beginning of the year, but a size smaller because I increased my weight training time and cardio frequency. It is more important than the damn numbers that we look at. Consider a realistic size goal instead of the numbers on the scale.
I agree with firefly :-) BMI just sucks... If you look and/or feel hot, love it! and of course, if you want to shed five, ten, or twenty pounds anyways, more power too ya! How many calories does whiskey have?
I know what you mean in terms of weight/height. Moms is less than 5 ft tall and I'd guess she's about 135-140lbs. 135lbs alone doesn't seem big but then when you mention she's less than 5 ft tall that's a different story.
Anyway, you'll get there when you get there. Dieting is not an all or nothing thing. Sometimes you have detours and that's ok too :-)
Totally agreed. My BMI is terrible but it does not take into consideration my muscle mass. All it cares about is how much I weight for my height and age. Granted I would like to get rid of some of the baby weight (he is now 3yrs old). :D
Max Cady in Cape Fear said: "Granddaddy used to handle snakes in church, Granny drank strychnine. I guess you could say I had a leg up, genetically speaking."
You are too funny, "Hearty Peasant Stock"?
My wife is worried about her weight right now, I think it is the pre-holiday correction. We all know we are stuffing our face in about three weeks. Later ya waif.
Please never weigh 95. I don't care how short your are, anything less than 100 is kind of creepy.
Great post!! I need to remind myself of that more often!!
"3 apples high"?? What's that mean?? Maybe I'm 5 bananas wide...
I hear ya. I'm a bit taller, but not tall enough for my current weight. Even though my BMI is in the normal range, I still have a lardy tummy and ass. So until that is smooth, then I'm giong to keep on workin'.
Moment of Truth Monday-not sure that is the best way to start your week. Monday's are a harsh reality that doesn't need a scale to forecast your weekly exercise and diet. The hubby and I moved weigh in day to Thursday to keep us motivated.
I fully agree. And it's true: we shorties gain a pound, and it seems like 2 pounds. Every five seem like 10. So I'm not blamin' or shamin' you for wanting to knock off some poundage. I'm backing you all the way.
yeah seriously, weighing less than 100 pounds is scary. even if you are only 5 foot.
BMI and all those other measures never seem accurate for me, either.
LOL...3 apples high? I love it. :) I guess I'm about three and a quarter, than. (I'm 5' and 3/4", but I round up to 5'1".)
Remember, BMI doesn't always apply to people who have a fair amount of muscle. You should get your body fat checked. Last year, my BMI considered me overweight for my height, but my body fat was on the low end of normal.
True. But, honestly Jess - you look fantastic, and to me you don't look like you need to loose ANY weight. However, we are our owns worst critics, right? So, with that said - good luck on your weightloss. 3 months is a long time to shed 5 lbs. You've got time and I'm sure you'll accomplish it!
I'm one of the ones that said your tiny. But, I meant that in a good way. :-)
i meant "tiny" as in... i really didnt know how tall you were, but you look fantastic :)
