Veteran's Day Vacation

This morning when Jerry left for work, he said: "Actually take the day off today -- don't grade any papers and don't do any housework -- just relax and enjoy your day." I was still half asleep so I responded with an "M'kay," but when I got up, I decided I should take his advice. While I do have some papers I brought home with me, and while I'm sure I could find some household chore to tend to, I thought he was right: I don't have too many days at home alone where I don't have anything going on. I should just spend the day relaxing.

So, that's what I did. Here was the schedule for the day:

First of all, I slept in. Didn't get out of bed until 9:30. Awesome. Then, I played with Scooter for a bit: He likes me to throw toys for him, and right now his favorite toy is his November Turkey. It's name is...can you guess? That's right, Tom. So I threw Tom the Turkey for Scoots for a bit until he was worn out. BTW, Scooter is only 3 years old, but he's getting very gray about the snout, don't you think? We've started calling him "Graybeard." Then, I sat down at the computer and got caught up on blogs. By 11, I was caught up with my blog reading, and I took Scooter for a walk; when we returned indoors, we did some more playing with Tom the Turkey.
Then, I had lunch and afterward, sat on the couch and read for awhile. I'm teaching Toni Morrison's "Beloved" in one of my literature classes, and I needed to re-read the novel, so I read that for a bit, and then fell asleep on the couch for about an hour. Scooter napped with me, and when I awoke, he was ready for more toy time. So, we went for Round 3 with Tom the Turkey -- you can see how worn out Scooter is getting in this pic below (both ears flapped back, tongue hanging out), but he will play with his toys until he falls down from exhaustion.
After Round 3 with Scooter, I laced up my running shoes and prepared for an afternoon 3 miler, but then I stepped outside, and it started to pour rain. Crap on a cracker. I came back in and played a little more with Scoots: This time his squinty eye definitely denotes how weary he is. That, or he smoked a doobie when I wasn't looking.
We only had to play for about 10 minutes, and the rain passed, which enabled me to get out there for the planned 3 miler. It did rain on me as I was running as well, but for such a short run, it didn't really bother me. The run was a little slow, but they were recovery miles so they're supposed to be a bit slow. I finished it up in 29:19.
So, now I'm showered, Scooter is finally, finally out of energy and he's crashed on the couch here in the office, and I think I will start dinner now (I'm gonna make "Chicken Fucker Chilli" aka White Chilli). Ahhh...what a nice day of vacation!

"Crap on a cracker." --> I love this quote.

Sounds like a perfect day to me too. I had all this paperwork I could have done, but just decided to let it sit another day.

Wish I had a cool name like that for chicken chili. This weekend I did a trifecta (three chilis): chicken, buffalo and pork

Could we trade places? Just for one day? I could really use a lazy, play with the dog all day, kind of day.

Glad you and Scooter had fun.
