Fresh Day, Fresh Run

So, after the weekend's failed long run(s), I think I like Wendy's advice best: scratch the weekend, start over. Therefore, I decided to put the bad run and the lack of a long run behind me and let this week be a fresh start. Granted, it is tempting to add some extra miles to my weekly runs in order to make up for the loss, but I think it might be self-defeating to do so since this week's runs are a little shorter in order to keep my legs fresh for Saturday's 18-20.

Thus, I just kept to tonight's scheduled 5, and thankfully, it went well (despite the fact that right now it is nearly 9 pm and is still 91 outside). I took the Garmin along; unfortunately, I forgot to reset it after last night's run, but the splits for the 5 are still calculable:

Mile 1: 10:02
Mile 2: 10:05
Mile 3: 10:20
Mile 4: 10:31
Mile 5: 10:40

I'm really ready for it to start cooling off around here, but I don't think that's in the near future. So, I continue to labor in the heat and do my best with it.

great run...I have these crazy rules about when to 'forget' missed miles and when to make them up - so far I've remained relatively injury free. And adding miles in a week with 18-20 for the long run isn't worth it.

don't remind me about the heat, I'm heading back to west palm tomorrow night and will be slaving through the heat dark and early thursday am.

You did awesome, despite the heat! I know I couldn't have pulled off those splits in 90+ weather!

As a native Floridian (and now a Texan for the last 25+ years), I certainly sympathize with training in the heat. Great job!

That's an awesome run! Especially so since I follow Galloway, and he only recommends running thirty minutes during the week. 5 miles rocks!!! as do you :-)

My thoughts on the weather exactly. I wanted to to quit running for good this morning during my 6 miler at 7am. 83 degrees and 89% humidity.

Uggghh...

I hate Florida sometimes. Until January that is :)

Those splits are great! I can't wait to move and get away from some of this Florida heat. Ick.

Good for you! Now let this success follow through the week and look toward that long run. You own that thing, and everything between now and then is just preparation. Kinda like a warm up before the big race.

Great run! I think that is a great idea to start the week fresh and just build for your big one this weekend :)

Great consistency on your run, Jess. Definately putting last week behind you is best, and I wouldn't worry about missing those runs at all. Fresh start!!
