Trading Mileage for Sleep

Norah slept until 7:05 this morning. Which was awesome, but it meant that we didn't get out the door for our run until 8 am. Normally, we aim to be out there running by 7:30 when the temp is merely a billion degrees. By 8 am, the temp is somewhere near a billion and a half degrees, and it feels unbearable to run in. You wouldn't guess that 30 minutes would make much of a difference, but it really does.

That's why we did 2 miles today instead of 3.

Okay by me, though. I'm willing to trade a mile for an extra hour's sleep!

Yes, that's a good trade. Now if only Norah will sleep in during the winter when it's cooler . . .

I totally understand how the temp goes up half a billion degrees in a short time. the sun is brutal!

Yesterday here was blissful. We didn't get out for our run until well after 9, but the weather was a chilly 80 instead of 100. It was wonderful!

Some days, sleep just has to win :)

One of the only good things about living in upstate NY is that it rarely gets so hot that you don't want to work out. I go for runs a lot in the middle of the day :)

Wintertime is another story...I go months without seeing the light of day :(

I'm sure the hour was worth it! Running ANY distance at 8am in the Florida Summer heat is quite a feat.

Very nice blog! I like the simple idea of running for 21 days and then making it habit that sticks forever.

Oh and I think the trade off when it comes to a child sleeping and one less mile is totally understandable.

The heat is just brutal these days!

I would absolutely trade mileage for sleep. Heck, some days I'd almost trade a kid for sleep. ;o)

I have enjoyed your blog! I live in Jacksonville FL...so I understand the brutal temps! I agree with you too, sleep over mileage is a great trade! I have two kids and so I've been getting up at 545 or earlier to go with friends...means I get up eaaarly...but otherwise the running wouldn't get done because I don't have a double jogger. Keep up the good work, its encouraging!

I am so impressed by your dedIcation to the streak. I've had cried "uncle" many times due to the heat alone!

Of course the humidity typically drops as the temperature rises, so you had that going for you, although I don't think it translates into much.

I would take that tradeoff anyday!

How does a midwestern girl put up with such heat? I would melt. There would be a greasy trail leading to a flesh colored puddle. That would be me where you live.

I completely believe you on the temp difference over just 30 minutes. Having flashbacks to when I go running at my parents' house: I'll go outside to check the weather at 6:45 and it will feel OK--but by 7:15, when the sun has just barely broken the horizon, the place becomes a hot swampy mess.
