Last Baby Class

The subject of our final baby class last night was drugs.

To which I say, "Yes, please."

Actually...it's not quite as simple as that. See, I really want the best of both worlds: I would like pain relieving drugs, but I would also like mobility and freedom. But you can't have both: It's either take the drugs and be strapped to the bed, or refuse the drugs and be free to walk, stand, squat, whatever best suits you. In the end, I'm sure I'll want the epidural and the IV just because, well, I haven't had a pain reliever stronger than Tylenol in the past 9 months and I'd appreciate a little numbing at this point, but I do wish there were some better compromise.

And so, that ended "baby class." Thank god. I mean, it was a good class, and there was a lot of helpful information, but I just wish it could have been condensed and crammed into one day (there are lots of hospitals that offer a one day, all day class, but ours isn't one of them) because stretching the classes out over the course of 3 weeks is tedious.

But in the end, even if we forget most of this stuff over the next 6 weeks, it did help make me feel better informed and better prepared.

All the info is swirling up in your head some place! Good luck to you. These 6 weeks are going to fly.

Now you guys are all ready for baby Norah to arrive! Six weeks isn't much time at all.

I guess I didn't realize you couldn't move around w/ the epidural but I guess that make sense. It is a tube stuck in your back right? Hmm... something I hadn't really realized. I'm with you, though. I plan to go with drugs.

Holy crap, is it really only 6 weeks til your due date? Say it with me- "HOLY CRAP!" Not "shit"... I'm trying not to curse around the unborn child.

ooh I hear you on the drugs! I wanted to walk around and have a natural birth, but because of baby's position they forced me to stay put in bed. That + pitocin = give me the epidural! and it was fabulous :)

You'll make the right decision when the time comes!

You guys are so ready! I would want the drugs too. My mom likes to remind me that she had all three of us without the drugs and fast deliveries. I am sure I would be as lucky!

Ask them if you can save the good stuff for later :-)

Maybe you can just get the drugs later? Like after you've walked around for a bit and stuff. Then again I really have no clue how any of that works, so I'm probably totally wrong lol!

Lots of choice and info, it's hard to decide before the big day, but there is a point when you say I WANT DRUGS! and they will say sorry it's too late!!

That's worth remember FWIW

I think you're about the same due date as my best friend - how fun. Time will fly and Norah will be here before ya know it!

Now that you have completed the baby class, the fun part is when Norah comes into this world pretty soon. I wish you all the best. It will pan out nicely with all the information you now have. GOOD LUCK!

I had a really long labor, so there was PLENTY of time to be able to walk around and whatnot before they gave me the glorious, beautiful drugs.

You may find your tolerance for pain is higher than you think. You are a runner and have pushed through serious discomfort before. If you end up with pitocin though, take the drugs and take 'em early. ;o)

I've done the pitocin/stuck in bed/epidural thing and the all natural birth thing. I actually preferred no drugs as I felt much more in control of the situation.

I think that is perfect - you are informed! It sucked not being able to get out of the bed, but I was in so much pain I didnt want to anyway. I just wanted to curl in a ball. And I got up real quick after and showered!!

Last class must mean you are ready!

I think going in with an open mind about the drugs thing is the best approach. In my class for pregnancy#1, I was the only one who said "I definately want drugs" and then I turned out to be the only one who didn't! You have the information now and you can make the decision when the time comes based on your personal situation

(btw, i tried to get drugs AFTERWARDS when I thought they would be more useful, but alas, that is not how it works)
