Everyone knows my aversion to my Garmin, but in the Saturday running group, I can't help but notice that everyone wears theirs, and, well, I like to be like everyone else -- conformity queen, you may call me. So, last Saturday, I was chatting about the Garmin with my running partner and I complained that the Garmin was bulky on my wrist and rubbed my wrist bone weird. She told me simply: "You just have to get used to it." In other words? Suck it up.
So, tonight that's what I did: I wore that damn Garmin. It was still bulky, it still rubbed my wrist bone wrong, and it was sweaty, but I kept it on the entire 5 miles. Thus, I present to you my splits:
Mile 1:10:13
Mile 2: 10:28
Mile 3: 10:35
Mile 4: 10:34
Mile 5: 10:34
I was dang consistent, wasn't I? Especially in miles 3-5. I guess I'm pretty much like a well-oiled machine at this point.

The Garmin is an absolute wonderful training partner. Yes!! Suck it up, and learn everything that it does. It can make your training a lot more interesting :-)
You really do get used to it. I feel naked without mine now. ;>)
Those are some dang awesome splits you got there!
And.. "suck it up" you did! Nice run chica!
...and fast!!!!
Nice job on the run.
I'm anti-garmin for the same reasons but I've been thinking about just sucking it up - we'll see.
I'm with Lisa, I feel naked without it. My only gripe now with the thing? The wrist band part is starting to smell funky :-X Guess I should start washing it, eh? I'm such a dirty dirt bag :P
Wow..you're consistent like a treadmill! Check you out!
I hate my Garmin, too. But for different reasons--it reminds me how average I am.
Oh man those are some scary splits! I can't believe how consistent you are!!! Garmin is going on my Christmas list this year.
jeez Jess!! thats some awesome splits there girlie!!!!!!!!!
Awesome splits!
try wearing it over a sweatband on your wrist. then it's all cushy-cushioned. i do that with my regular non-garmin hrm and it seems to work well. and the band doesn't stink at all or even really get sweaty when i do that.
WOWZA!! I'd pay big money for those splits! nice job! :)
Hi Jess! I found your blog through some crazy chain of other blogs. I'm just now joining this crazy blogging community, but wanted to say keep up the good work!
Try giving your Garmin a second chance, it gets addicting (in a good way, like running)!
Yeah, I sucked it up too. Took me about two or three runs. I do like what it can do, but not always what it tells me :(
Amazing consistency - you rock.
What is a Garmin? Is it one of those hand-held water bottles? I hate any acoutrement when I'm running.
Good job on the consistent splits!
i've been eyeing a garmin for some time now. but i don't even like to wear a regular watch when i run because it's so distracting to me. i am starting to wear it on my long runs so maybe a coolass garmin is my next step. i would be absolutely addicted to it though...

The reason I wear my Garmin is to see the improvement (if there is any - hehe), and see where I am in my weakest along my splits. If it's beginning, that tells me to slow down from the start. If it is middle, then I need to mentally adjust (because the last few miles seems like my fastest times). And... if it's the end - well that's normal fatigue. That's why I wear it these days....
That's very consistent times and shows that you have found your good pace! Great splits - great run!!!
NICE BLOG.
You are a pacemaster at heart! Wish you could join us for some pacing. Well done on the run!
