Confession

Bless me bloggers, for I have sinned: I did not go to my Saturday morning group run. Yes, it's true, I skipped the long run. Instead of spending my morning running with the faithful and getting it done, I spent the morning curled comfortably in my bed with my husband and dog (who really puts out the BTUs).

Honestly, bloggers, I had planned on going to the group run this morning: Last night I prepared a delicious carb-filled dinner, laid out all my running clothes and supplies, and I went to bed early, yet this morning, when the alarm went off, I just couldn't muster the strength to get out of bed. So, I poked my husband in the cheek several times to wake him (I needed to consult with him), and I asked: "I don't feel like going to the long run this morning. I'm really tired. Does this mean I'm a bad little runner?" He sagely replied: "Not to me." That's what I needed to hear. I rolled over, closed my eyes, and went back to guilt-free sleep. That's right, my friends, I did not even repent of my sin, I just continued on in blissful slumber.

These missed miles pain me now in the bright morning light, but mostly because I have been so good for a month (at least) now, and I have strived to run every run (some have been cut a little short, but I've been out there). But this morning? I guess my motivation puttered out. Perhaps I will make up some mileage tomorrow, I don't know, but for now I'm not gonna beat myself up too much over it: I seem to go in cycles -- weeks of motivated running and then a few setbacks -- so I know I'll rediscover my mojo.

And I'm positive I'll be back to worship at the dawn church of running next Saturday. This week, I had to sleep in.

dude, if i had a man and a pup in my bed every morning i doubt i would EVER get up! besides, rest is VERY important in training!! enjoy your guilt-free rest day!

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Don't worry about it. You'll be back into your training in no time and you won't even remember that you skipped a run.

You are absolved :-) Have a great day!!

Ehhh.... it happens. And I agree with Miss PA: if I had a man (got the pup), then I'd never get up!

BTUs = Butt Turbulence Units? Stop feeding the dog refried beans, and the pooting will reduce.
:-)

Ideally, your mood swings would align with the reduced mileage/intensity weeks of your training plan, but that's in a perfect world. You'll come back around. If you must, break up your total mileage for the day into 2 runs, or even 3 for an exceptionally long run. It's a method that is showing some very real benefit and results!

BTW, check out some of the blog links on my page. I think you'll get a laugh.

You know me -- voice of doom. I seriously would do a long run tomorrow or Monday. Skipping long runs = bad marathon. Just my two cents.

I missed mine as well! I slept in (plus went to bed before 10PM last night!!), but I did get up initilly to go for it. My body is supah-sore after Thursday's trail-aganza.

So I absolve thee.

so hubby keeps you sane? that's interesting, when my bf is around he shuts off the alarm and kicks me out...

I seem to go through the marathon mood swings as well - and I'll only try to make-up miles within the same "week" because adding mileage to an easy week seems to defeat the purpose.

I hope you enjoyed the sleep - I could use some extra.

So you skipped a happy hour and a movie you wanted to see to run 3 miles during the week but skipped the longer run (which you are paying to be in a group running)? I will never understand you crazy runners but I do not fault you one bit. You have been doing super with sticking with your training. Everyone deserves a day off. I just took a month off of riding bike (or more...) and need to hop to it next week when I get back from Chicago. At least your lapses are only a day or two.

eh it happens. no worries. coach says not to try to make up a missed run. just start over.

good advice if i may so myself.

(this is a secret...don't tell anyone. you never have to admit to anything in blogland. say you went on the 74 mile run saturday morning and we wouldn't know any better. in fact, you'd be super cool woman of the universe. i do it all the time. spend most of my time eating cookies'n'cream while watching Lost reruns. but i'll forgive you this time...)

Scott is really just killing me today...he must have taken a couple extra witty pills this morning ;)

Eh, these days happen..you'll get to where you need to be, but Chicago may hurt a little more. I could always loan you my personal trainer/guiltgiver to call you in the morning after her awesome run that would make you want to get out there and go, too ;)

I snoozed on Friday. I think we should throw all the alarm clocks of the land into the ocean!

I am in the "make up mileage during the week for missed long runs" category.

The path to self-actualization is paved with the blood of self-flagellation.

Jess - no worries.. you deserve time off. You're doing great on your runs, and since you just want to finish the marathon, not win it - you're okay to miss some runs and NOT feel any guilt about it.
