To 5K or Not to 5K

After the best night of sleep I've had all week, I am feeling much better today. The fever, achiness, tiredness is gone and while I'm still congested, I am feeling well enough to teach my class this afternoon. But I am now faced with an interesting conundrum:

Do I run my planned 5K on Saturday?

I do want to run this race because it would be my 3rd year in a row running it, and it has special meaning: It was my first 5k in FL and I'd like to run it each year. But after being sick all week, I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Plus, it's before my Saturday class, so I'd have to run the race and then go to class all sweaty. I'd be disappointed to miss it though.

I need a Magic 8 Ball to help me out!

I'd say see how you're feeling race day. If you feel ok, maybe try to run it slowly. I just posted all about running races and not racing them--so I don't think that would be a bad idea. That way, you'd be out there, but not really pushing it. Plus, sometimes a nice run can help speed the healing process. Just my thoughts. Best of luck, whatever you choose.

i agree with 26...u don't have to race it but if you're feeling ok on saturday, it might do you some good to get the blood pumping.

By the sound of your blog you were really sick Jess!! So I am going to say I just dont think 1 day of feeling better is enough...

Just my opinion.

Definitely see how you feel in the morning. If you just had a cold, I think you'll be OK. If it was the flu or some rogue virus, maybe skip the race. Or, if you feel good tomorrow morning, do the race, and if at any moment you feel like shit, drop out.

As a professional mother, my advice to you is to not run. Get some rest. Not only does cold medicine make you dehydrated, this is also your second cold in as many months. It sounds like your immune system is compromised and you should really focus on eating healthy foods, taking your vitamins, and getting plenty of rest...at least for one weekend for goodness sake. Also, didn't you have an IT band inflamation just last weekend? Your body is telling you to slow down. There will be other races when you are healthier.

I would see how you are feeling in the morning and if you feel even better than today...run it girl! It may even make you feel better!

I would do it only if you are up to and feeling well. Good luck!
