"Sick" Day

Yesterday was a wash -- all Jerry and I did was lay on the couch and watch TV. We watched a full disc of "Ugly Betty" and the movie "The Illusionist" and some of "Old School." I cleaned up the house from the party and that was about the extent of anything that got done (I swear, neither of us felt normal until about 5 pm yesterday); thus, I decided to take the day off work today in order to, well, work.

I had lots of papers that I'd brought home over the weekend, but hadn't gotten to any, and I really just needed a day at home -- without distractions -- to get caught up. So, I called early this morning and cancelled my two classes for the day. And I think it was a good decision. I got two classes worth of papers graded and half of one other class done. I also managed a few household chores (while also watching a long program on the History Channel on the Battle of Thermopylae), ran to Petco with Scooter to buy a new bag of dog food, and went for a 3 mile run.

It can be amazing how much work I can get done when not at work.

It feels good to be better caught up, and even though I had to cancel a day of classes, I had room for it in our schedule, so it won't be much to make up when I return to class. I wish we got "teacher planning days" or something like that in order to do exactly what I did today, but there's no such luck. Thankfully, I do get paid personal and sick days, so taking one is kind of like taking a "planning day" and I'm glad that it's 5 pm and I have not only my work done, but my run out of the way for the day. Now I can make dinner and settle in for a long evening of relaxing.

It stinks that you had to spend the day grading but the great feeling of being caught up is worth it. Glad you had a day off!

I needed one of those days today, too. My house is such a wreck and it is going to take me all night to get caught up :P

Isn't that a great feeling?!

'I wish we got "teacher planning days" or something like that' --> don't we (teachers) all?? God that would be wonderful!!

far more productive than I am when I'm working at my parent's home...

I'm disappointed you didn't break into my place and clean for me while I was gone though.

LMAO Wendy. You never know. One day I might do it while you're traveling. I'm a stalkerish enough :P

Sounds like a completely productive "sick" day! Glad you're all caught up and ready to go :-)

I swear it takes like 2 days to recover from hang overs these days.

Good catch on my blog - sunrise/sunset - oops.

Good luck on the 5 lbs! You look great as you are though!

Relaxing sounds nice. That was what I had planned for tonight too. Instead, I've been on the phone with a robot-voiced person from the Philipines all night trying to get a glitch out of my wireless router. I gave up and switched back to my modem for now. It's never easy when you want it to be!

That sounds like a good day Jess. I had to update my lesson for tonight (last time I taught this week's unit fell on a holiday and we didn't have class). Luckily it was an easy topic-marketing. Next week...accounting, my least favorite unit. I am exhausted after a long day at work. I want to go to bed right now.

Don't you hate how work gets in the way of work? Really. It amazes me! As for those teacher planning days -- I never got a one during my teaching career. My planning day was Sunday. All flippin' day.

I think a day off is good once in a while. I'm always amazed at what I can do with the extra time.

Of course, I usually end up surfing the 'net. ;)

I bet your students appreciated it too! I always loved getting a class off unexpectedly, esp. on a Monday. Glad you were able to get so much done. Have a good rest of the week.
