Yesterday, I set out all the stuff I'm packing for the trip: regular outfits and my marathon outfit. As far as the marathon outfit, I decided to go with essentially the same thing I wore for Disney, but I am bringing along an old sweatshirt for marathon morning since the forecasted low is 54 degrees. For some, that may sound like beach weather, but for me, that sounds like a frigid start. Now, I have been debating what to wear over my singlet for about a month now and I've gone back and forth between the virtues of an old sweatshirt and a technical shirt. Ultimately, I wanted something that I could toss away and not care about, so a sweatshirt it is. Plus, if it is 50 degrees Sunday morning, I'm gonna be COLD, so I want to remain warm while I'm standing around waiting for the gun.
Aside from clothing necessities for the trip, I have the following to take care of before we leave:
- Buy Drammamine for flight (I'm a barfer otherwise)
- Finish grading essays I have so I can return them tomorrow in my last class
- Charge the garmin, the mp3, the camera, and my cell phone
- Remember to pack all of the above gadgets
- Clean the house (I hate leaving behind a messy home when on vacation)
- Tighten the mini-screws on my sunglasses (not a necessity for the trip -- I've just been meaning to get to this)
- Print/pack all necessary agenda stuff and phone numbers (it's gonna be BUSY!)
So, I gotta go homies! Lots to do!

Sounds like you are ready...onward ho.....
Oh yeeaz.... Gettin down and dirty now... As a southern boy, I sympathize with the frigid temps. I'm a long sleeve kind of guy in the low 60's.
Before I go to each tri, usually spending the night prior at a motel, I make a very extensive list like you have. I check it when I pack, and double check before I leave. It would totally suck to get there and be missing some vital piece of gear. I guess we are both obsessive planners like that, but I think it's worth it. I do sometimes forget my jammies, though. Whoops!
I don't imagine you clean the house before you leave for the same reason that I do, but I do the same too. I just don't clean well. And, I travel all the time and still always forget things. If you are checking luggage make sure to carry on your essentials...
When do you actually leave?
wa-frickin-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!
i read somewhere in runner's world that a garbage bag works well for keeping you warm and dry before a race.
Sounds like you're on top of things, I'm finishing off my packing tomorrow; I just want one more test run with my race gear to double check it all works!
Its weird how everyone cleans before they leave.. even I do it, and I'm a guy.
The throw away sweatshirt is a good idea, I'm going to steal the it (the idea, not the sweatshirt). Most marathons donate all the clothes tossed aside to a charity or Good Will; maybe it will keep you warm and help you sleep at night!
Clean? You are a better woman than I. :D
Good luck. Usually I only know one person to follow. This year, I should have several.
Are you gonna share a bib number with us so we can watch?
Yeeeee Hawwww!! Like Wendy I'm curious to know when you actually leave. I'm excited for all you homies!! ;D ;D ;D
You can't mock me for my list making and house cleaning before trips anymore. You are an official member of the club.
You sound all ready to go. Good luck!!
Have a great trip! I can't wait to hear all about it!
Cleaning the house would have been last on my list. I always make a list before leaving. It makes stressing out in the middle of the night, by waking up thinking "don't forget the....". However, while I have my list all ready (I think so), I do wake up and have to go downstairs to add that to do, or item on my list.
Did I say I love lists........ Good for you, Jess!!
Heck, it sounds like you have it pretty together if you ask me! You'll get that list accomplished in no time.
That is funny about tightening the glasses screws. It's good to go feeling totally ready.
