The 5 miler didn't happen last night.
Instead...I went and got my Halloween costume!
Yes, instead of working out, my husband and I went out to dinner and then went shopping for my costume (he's had his put together since August -- well, one piece of the outfit needs to be found, but he's very close to being done). I have had ideas since about mid-summer, but when several key ideas didn't pan out, or turned out to be too expensive, I got discouraged and had kinda given up. But last night, we went to the Party Store and I started trying on costumes.
Gawd, it was a zoo there (I told my husband that next year his task is going to be to go out and buy me, like, 10 costumes and bring them home for me to try on at home, and then he can return the rest; I don't love a crowd), and this was the costume situation: I'm too small to fit in an Adult Standard costume -- I look like I'm in a multi-colored tent -- and while the "Teen" costumes fit, they're a little on the slutty side -- watch out fathers of girls; the costume world is hell-bent on turning your daughters into street walkers. But, the Adult Small fit pretty well. However, I couldn't decide which costume to wear -- so I ended up buying several to take home and try on in front of a real mirror (this was two stores later).
Once home, I determined that while I essentially liked all of them, only one was the best fit. Of the other two, one was a little too big and I can't find the necessary wig to complete the outfit, and the other...well, that one fit fine and we may keep it for other purposes...but it wasn't really a good fit for wearing to a party (let's just say that it may not be returnable anymore!). But, I am going to leave you peeps in suspense about the outfit I choose.
That's right, it's a secret.
Our Halloween party is the 27th, so you'll get pictures then. But until then? Distract yourselves with candy.

Oh.my.gosh. It sounds worse than shopping for real clothes!! All of this for the sake of fun.
I like your idea - bring 'em home and try 'em on and take 'em back to fight the crowd.
My wife and I went halloween costume shopping last night too. We went to one store, then another and then back to the original one right before closing. Why are things so difficult?!
You tease!!! I don't blame you with the crowds. I HATE HATE HATE it. And it is primarily why I shop online and get my Christmas shopping done by the end of next month LOL
My guess is either Snow White or Richard Petty or a vampire.
...
Man, I wish Mendy would get a costume unsuitable for a party. Or one of those teen costumes you mentioned. I mean, how long is it really worn for? 38 seconds? Or if it's really, um, interesting, then other things distract the mind from any discomfort.
Oh well, I guess we'll keep using the clown suit. *sigh*
Can't wait to see what you guys decided on! I'm sure you won't do anything half-assed, so it should be worth the wait.
My experience was that most of them were unsuitable for a party also!! GEEZ it's getting slutty out there.
Cavegirl was one size fits all. First, thank God it fit when they give me that kind of pressure, and second, it would have been seriously too short for public consumption on it's own. Although it would have worked for a shorter gal.
Sounds like fun. Can't wait for the pictures.
I can't wait to see what you went with!
I need to find a halloween costume for the 27th as well. I would rather put together my own costume, but I am really running out of time! eeks!
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
i didn't think you could buy em and return em.
You are such a tease! I can't wait to hear what you decided to go with. And costumes are always fun to have around ;)
My party is the same night! Did you see my costume I posted in a past blog?
And I definitely feel your pain -I'm too petite to fit into Adult costumes, and YES -some teen costumes are super slutty. I think I came up with a pretty good option though. Looks cute on me, "slightly" seductive, and fun.
Can't wait to see yours! :)
are there any prizes for correct guesses?
seeing as all female costumes have the word "sexy" in them these days (i.e., sexy cabbage patch kid, sexy psychoanalyst, sexy firefighter)
You are going to be a sexy teacher. It works because you have practice at the role, but halloween allows us all to slut it up some.
I, for instance will be a sexy fool.
Who needs a slutty costume when Jerry strips it right off of you anyways. You are dirty porn stars! :)
Yep, did the costume thing yesterday with my daughter and they were packed. I asked for a Superman outfit for my 2 year old, and they brought me the last one they had in his size, WITHOUT THE CAPE. Can you imagine dressing my son up as Superman and not giving him the cape? I'd probably scar him for life. So, we passed on that one. I've yet to get his costume and will have to go somewhere else to get his.
My daughter's gonna be a snow fairy. She made this up herself. Which means I have to alter her fairy costume by hot gluing snow flakes on it, somehow making her look like a snow fairy instead of a regular fairy. Of course, she WAS going to be a Ghost Cat (again, her idea) but now has decided against that. Which is good, 'cause I didn't know how we were going to make her look like a "ghost" cat and not just a "white" cat.
DH and I are going as a Lord and Lady, so we get to dress up in pretty clothes. The kicker is--DH wears these creepy teeth and whites his face out and looks like an old man, not just a Lord. I, on the other hand, am going to get all glammed up and just treat it like a night out on the town.
Sorry, this is like the longest Halloween comment ever..... ;-)~
Dang it. Hate to wait.
Let's see - my guess is..... a runner avec real running shoes, sweat bands and your own iPod!
I love Halloween! I can't wait to see the costume!
You should see the costumes my 9 year old niece had picked out! Ugh...talk about slutty! I had to have a serious talk with her.
Can you send the red skittles to my house?
Tee hee...
Can't wait to see what the costume is.
Hey, Jess: Check it out - http://chicagofunrun.com/
Someone has beat you to the punch on the T-shirt idea!
So you mean I'll need to spend 26.2 miles next week wondering what custome you picked because I won't have internet access? at least it gives me something else to think about...
How about a clue? Maybe we can have a guessing game between now and then.
Clues would be nice. Either way, I'm sure it's good and look forward to the pictures. I can't remember the last I went to an actual Halloween party. Ahh... the joys of parenthood.
I hate crowds too! especially shopping crowds.
Oh COME ON, girl! I can not wait to see this year's costume.
Since I am not suffering through having clothes not fit because they are TOO BIG, I think I will skip the candy for now. Can't wait to see the costume!
