Chicago Medals: Up For Sale

I guess if I really want a medal from Chicago this year, I can do it the old-fashioned way: No, not earn it -- Buy it!

Check it out.

How much should I bid, homies?

I, personally, would let that one go. But that's just me. I wasn't there. It will be interesting to see where this one goes...

Why in the world would someone sell it? All that work and then sell it?!?! Its like a war medal. Makes a great story for the grandkids.

You guys DO know that I am kidding about bidding...right?

It's almost up to $100!

Um, they were giving away medals to THOUSANDS of people who were diverted off the course, too. Not just finishers. I'm SURE if someone ran the entire distance they wouldn't sell it.

And I know, I was diverted at 16.5 miles and upon returning to Grant Park I was given a medal for what they were calling a "Fun Run".

Loved the pics I can see you had a good time and that is all that matters. Someday you can tell your grandkids that you ran in the Chicago marathon the year that Chicago ran out of water!

Did you see they had two medals? (He listed it in the comments.)

Hmm...bob...you've got a point...

Let me think about this one...

Hrmm...

I'm not sure I could do it, but I AM strapped for cash.

Jess, I offered it to you on Sunday night. You want it, it's yours...otherwise, I may just stick it up on eBay... ;)

Speechless.

the image quality on the ebay photo is superb. i think just a print out of the medal would fool enough people.

You've got to be kidding me!!! That person must seriously need some $$$ to be selling that baby! ...or maybe he stole it off some poor passed out runner...??

I noticed the sarcasm right away. I am not surprised though... that it is up for auction, but for that much? trip.

Get out. Someone is really taking advantage. I'm disgusted.

You think it will be some sort of collector's item? I'd pass, but then again, if you can make a bundle....

God I love eBay. You can sell anything to anybody.

On your previous picture post--you are too cute! It's great to read all the positive stuff you did on your trip.

Sadly, that's not the scariest thing i've seen on ebay.

who on earth would buy that? that's really strange. i'll stick to earning my finishers medals, tyvm.

jess, i hope you're recuperating well and getting ready to start chipping away at other goals!

me? i took the week off. ha! i'm baking yellow cake with chocolate frosting tonight. life is good.

Don't you get a medal for simply surviving the experience!

Kim said...

wow just caught up on your marathon experience...holy. shit.

im glad you are recovering; after all of that nonsense, you should be drinking lots of cold beverages (beers) and eating lots of nutritious foods (pizza).

Jess, the thought of selling a medal - especially for a race that put me in the ER - boggles the mind.

They are giving free registrations to the Denver Marathon if you have proof that you were registered for the Chicago Marathon. Come on out!

I was given a medal for my "fun run" - and was going to pitch it ... But I guess there might be some historical value to it. Friends of mine said they got them too - but had to go over to a huge box of them on the ground and just grab their own. Lots of people didnt want them - but I suppose some might have grabbed a couple? I am sorry to hear that an actual finisher never even got one ... what bs.
