So, this is my little hambone right now:
I ask him to "smile!" and he* does it:
Norah, however, when I ask her to "smile," I get this artificial smile where her eyes aren't even open:
Or, she just flat out refuses me and keeps picking her nose:
Kids in this generation have to be THE most photographed...ever...so I understand Norah's camera-weariness, but in general, being 3 is an obnoxious age that seems filled with bossiness, bargains, and demands; so it's nice to still have Caleb be my "baby" and smile nicely for the camera. I'm sure that, soon enough, he too will ignore me and/or give me the fake smile.
*Something else I'm appreciating about Caleb, and his age, right now: He eats! Simple enough, right? Not for Norah. She treats each meal like a hostage situation. If she had a panic room, she'd use it when we called "dinner!" Caleb, on the other hand, eats everything (veggies? yes, please! meat? sure!) and eats it ALL. Shows too: He grew 3 inches and gained more than 3 lbs the past 3 months. He doubled in clothing size. The one upper hand Norah has in this comparison? She's potty trained. Yup, that's about all I can come up with right now...

Yes, I think dinner with children qualifies us as hostage negotiators and UN peace keepers.

Oh I am so hoping #2 will be an eater because my daughter and Nora could be in the panic room together! She is such a negotiator that she better become a lawyer!! She working the fake smile too! We've started to tell her to smile like a princess!
They're so stinkin' cute it's not even funny.
My gosh, your kids are huge. And by huge, I mean getting bigger every day. I am so getting old. Can I pass my marathon torch to Caleb? Tomorrow?
That is exactly where we are right now, too! My mom tried to take pictures of all her granddaughters yesterday and Kate flat out refused to smile! And, I've come to dread dinnertime and the fight that ensues. I'm tempted to just let her eat pb&j every day!
Heh... yeah, you're right about the photographs... I barely have any of me as a young'un, and my niece who is not 1 yet probably already has thousands, hmm.
oh WOW. He is getting soooo big! Cripes, you can't take a blogging hiatus anymore. I pop in here and I assume that you birthed a 12 month old.
Yea this generation of kids gets photo'd waaaaaay more than we ever did. it's kind of crazy. Cute pics!
If I'm lucky Rylee gives me fake smile. Most of the time, she turns her head. This summer she pretty much refused to be in all group shots.
As for dinner, I've even given up the negotiating. She eats like crap. She only has one vegetable and about four fruits in her repetiore.
Totally ditto to everything you just said. Scary!
