This morning, I took my newfound mojo for a 9 miler. Since I have no watch and no working Garmin, I have no idea what my overall time was or what my splits were (but I know it was 9 miles because I have memorized almost all of my routes so I really don't need any gadget to tell me distance), but on the whole, it felt good.
I was sweaty as hell when I was done, though. The thing about this time of year is that Nature seems to have runners between a rock and a hard place in terms of conditions: Run early in the morning and the temp is cooler but the humidity is higher; run late in the evening and the humidity is lower, but the temp is hotter. But, the advantages of getting a run done early in the day ultimately far outweigh waiting until evening, so I'm glad I ran this morning -- even though I lost a pound in sweat! (Literally. This time of year, I find it interesting to weigh myself before and after runs to see the difference since I sweat so much. A pound is quite a bit for a 9 miler. But it's nothing compared to what some people lose on a truly long run. I used to run with a woman when I was training for Chicago -- back in 2007 -- and she said she almost always was down 8-10 lbs after a long run! Granted, you re-gain that weight once you're properly hydrated and re-fueled, but I think it's amazing how much a person can sweat.)

I always lose a couple of pounds when I do a hot long run, even with the huge amount I drink. Good job getting the run in. I just have four on the schedule today and I'm having a hard time getting motivated...
I found your blog a few days ago and have truly been enjoying the read! Thanks for the Garmin 110 info - my husband has the 305 and I love to use his but when we run together it's always a "fight" for who gets to wear it. Looks like it's time for me to get my own ;)
Glad you found your mojo!
Great job! Today was a miss for me, but I'm aimimng for 8 next Saturday.
Great job on the 9-miler! I definitely prefer morning runs, at least on weekends. Otherwise that's all I can think about all day long!
I usually loose 1-2 lbs on a decent length run, but last Friday I took a hot yoga class ... oh, boy. 1.5 hours and six pounds later, I headed home to rehydrate. Yikes! Glad you found your mojo, Jess!
Nice job!!
I live in central Texas and we also get the DREADFUL humidity along with the scorching temperatures! I feel your sweat!!
Yea for finding your mojo! I also think its way cool that Jerr is making an awesome finisher's medal for your 13.1.
Great job on the 9 miles! I prefer morning runs on the weekend, afternoon during the week - its not hot here though!
Great job on 9 miles!! WOW! I also prefer morning runs, because it is done and out of your head and you can enjoy the rest of the day with out checking the watch :)
It's sooo cute your husband is creating your finisher medal!!! :)
8-10 pounds down in one run! Wow! That is a lot of sweating. Glad you had a good run.
Hi! I'm Jon Polich's sister...every once in a while when I'm reading Shannon's blog, I click on to your site and read about your adventures in running. I started running in Jan. (New Year's Resolution) and LOVE it. I must say it is addicting. I ran my first race last weekend (5K...my time was 32:01). My husband and I want to run the Broad Street Run (10 miler) next spring..any advice how to start training for a long race or any good websites to check out?? Thx
9 miles, woot! great job.
