Sneeze-tastic

Last night I went for another 3 miler, and my stats were like so:

Mile 1: 11:34
Mile 2: 11:28
Mile 3: 12:02 (clearly, a little tired)

Total Time: 35:00

Right now, my primary goal with running is simple: Run 3 miles every other day at a comfortable pace until I begin to feel stronger and ready to run faster and farther. I have my 6 week check up next week, and I hope that after I get the "all clear," I can begin to think about choosing a few year end races to help provide some larger purpose to the running.

In other news, Jerry and I have both come down with the cold that Norah had last weekend. It's nothing major, and aside from a runny nose, I don't feel too bad; however, I will say that sneezing has taken on a whole new dimension now after giving birth. Let's just say that those "girl" muscles haven't fully regained their pre-birth strength yet, and when I sneeze, I feel as though I should first seat myself on the toilet.

Oy vey, these are not the things they tell you about when people try and trick you into how great it is to have a baby!

And I love your plan for getting back to faster times. Hope you get the all clear from the doc!

haha, yea the little germ factories will pass on everything they get to you. cost me a marathon last spring when the eldest got a cold from kindergarten and sent me down for the count 2 days before i was supposed to run a marathon.

I do NOT mean to mock your sneezing predicament...but OMG I totally laughed out loud by myself in my office at the sneezing on a toilet idea!! Thanks :)

So glad you're out there and pounding the pavement! It will all come back to you in no time! And thanks for the "realness" when it comes to the whole having a baby thing - still on the fence and every little "real" insight is appreciated. :)
Feel better!

OMG! Way too much information!

Just teasing... but this is up there with the poop stories for sure.

I have 2 sisters with kids so I had already heard this little tidbit of information. It cracks me up actually!

Nice run! I think your goal with running is perfectly in line!

LOL... and I didn't know anything about that either! You are letting loose some well kept secrets ;-)

Hope you guys feel better!!

I still pee a little every time I do the 30 day shred. Kegels didn't do me one damn bit of good!

Hope you guys get over the cold quickly.

After having two kids, I've learned to either cross my legs or "kegel" as I feel a sneeze coming on. Ahh, the joys of motherhood LOL.

Sounds like your getting back in the swing of thing with running.

Sorry you caught Nora's cold. Just wait for preschool. We were all sick constantly during Jones' first year of that.

BLESS YOU! :)

That's a good plan! I definitely see some races in your near future.

Happy Weekend to you and the fam.

This is exactly the reason I read your blog.....professor who likes keeping it real.

:::word verification:::ptatow....kind of looks like potato, no?

Kegels didn't do a thing for me either. The only way I was able to run again and not pee at the same time was to regularly do pilates. They work miracles!

ha! a good friend of mine already filled me in on the many joys of childbirth (she leaves nothing out and is quite descriptive ;)) but nice that you are running! your goals sound perfect--hope it continues to go so well!

I think that is one very good reason to build muscle and do your kegels before and after birth. Obviously, this is in hindsight for me. I have had the sneeze that made me need a change of pants. Nothing embarrassing enough to warrant hiding but definitely enough to require a "dry" pair of undies!

Good plan on the running. I am sure you will gain official clearance next week. You have bounced back very fast.

haha, I have the feeling you'll have all kinds of new 'incidents while running' stories post baby :)

Glad you're back up and running!

Sounds like you have a solid plan for returning back to your old running form

I'm so impressed with your running - you're giving me hope that I can get back into the swing of things after my little one arrives!

Can I say that it's crazy/incredible that you're already talking about racing again?
