Welcome Autumn!

Recently, on many blogs, I have been reading about how autumn weather is greeting those of you who do not live in a sweltering terrarium known as Florida, and I must admit jealousy. I love fall, and every September, I really miss the change of season: the leaves, the crisp in the air, the darker evenings; to me, fall always felt like the time of day when you're getting ready for bed and I always thought that felt so comforting.

Here in FL, however, September's arrival feels no different. It's still frickin hot and humid, and it will remain this way until about the end of October. Maybe November. Then it finally begins to cool off here, and then it feels glorious to live in FL (and I get to make comments on your blogs like, "Oh, you're experiencing snow and cold? Hmmmm, it's 78 and sunny here!" and that is always fun).

So, while September only means peak hurricane season here in terms of weather, it does signal that fall is on the way, and fall, despite the fact that I'm missing the good weather, is my favorite time of year. And this year, I'm especially looking forward to returning to running (soon, I hope) as the season begins to cool off some, and, at the very least, it begins to get dark earlier. And while I haven't actually gone running yet, I am thinking about it, and I am perusing the fall/winter race calendar in the hopes that I can run at least a few races in 2009.

For now, though, I'm still just walking on a daily basis (trying to be conservative) and dreaming of Turkey Trots and Jingle Bell Jogs.

Agreed - it doesn't seem much like fall while it's still 109 out!

Can't wait to see what kind of running you can get yourself into yet this year!

P.S. You are so my hero for running through your pregnancy. It's something I hope to be able to do... and am planning to do as we get ready to TTC. :)

I refer to September as the "teasing" month (in Houston). We'll randomly get a day that alludes to the joy that fall brings, but the very next day the temperature jumps into the 90's with 90% humidity.

I was enjoying the 71 degree temps out this morning (and last night). Not to worry, real summer weather will be down there soon :-O

Here is the mountains of NC September has wasted no time with its cool kiss... there are even some dried leaves rustling about to crunch your feet through.

As much as I like to whine during the winter, I don't think I would trade our changing seasons for the warmth. I love fall, especially for running.

A Turkey Trot will be a perfect way to get back into running!

I guess you aren't from FL - where are you from? Yes the weather has been GREAT :) Yours will come soon! When it is freezing here you have temperate weather.. so its all good in the end!

I welcome fall with open arms! But of course, it means we will soon be facing sub-zero temperatures and snow, snow and more snow for several months. Thanks for the reminder! :)

Hope you can get out there for a run soon. A Turkey Trot sounds fun!

I hear ya - September in Texas is no different than July or August. Although, it was about 72 this morning (with only 70% humidity) and running felt almost fun again. Almost.

Turkey trots and jingle bell runs sound like a great way to ease back in to running!

That's fantastic Jess. Even here in SC we're still getting some warm threats. But it still feels like your december out there.

you're right, that is fun!

check some garage sales this weekend, we just found a jogging stroller for $10 a couple of weeks ago.

Hahaha! This was my status post yesterday on Facebook! It's still 85-90 out here in Nor. California and I really need Fall to get here for the good running weather! Plus, like you said, a good Turkey Trot is always welcomed.
Good job on the walking, the running will be waiting when you're ready! :)

I hear ya! Growing up in NY, Sept was always my favorite month. Now that I live in FL, it's my least favorite month. I crave fall so terribly bad!

Glad to hear you'll be running again soon!

Hey, it is not fall yet, we still have officially three weeks before it starts back to Frozen Freeking Tundra...LOL...

Glad you are feeling so well and getting out and about! I'm sure Norah will like to do a Turkey Trot too!

Turkey trots and jingle bell jogs will be here before you know it.

One of the things I like about VA is we get all four seasons. Some weeks it feels like we got all four in a matter of days, but most of the time it's four distinct seasons.

I'll try not to be too jealous when you are running in shorts and I have on two layers of long pants. ;o)

I miss the changing leaves the most, especially in MN with all the beautiful forests. So pretty!

I'm eyeing up both those runs as well :)

I love the changing seasons :) And fall is my favorite beause you can do so much with clothing! Layering your summer stuff, long sleeve t-shirts, sweaters ... yay!

The best thing about having a baby is that while we often recycle last years cold-weather clothing, we get to go out and buy new clothes for them! Double yay!

I love fall too, and even parts of winter!

I love the fall too! Still stinkin' hot here in the northern part of the Sacramento Valley but our nights are cooling off some (you know, down to the 60's now WAHOO!) and I don't have to run the AC 24/7 (yeah for not having $300 PG&E bills). Glad you have your mind on running. Just don't go out like a bandit. Enjoy the journey back.

OMG it's been gawdawful hot and humid (Florida weather I call it) here is SoCal. It almost makes me miss fall weather...

Well...almost because I know that fall weather is followed by snow and gawdawful cold, and I don't miss that... AT ALL

You'll be doing a Turkey Trot, I have no doubt!
