I Hate Mornings

The most logical time of day for me to run is in the early morning. Typically, Norah is up sometime in the middle of the night, then again between 5-6 am, then she'll snooze again until about 7:30 or 8. So, it makes sense for me to run after feeding her in that 5-6 am window, before Jerry leaves for work at 7.

The only problem?

I hate mornings, and I milk as much sleep out of them as I possibly can, so even though I've had the intention both yesterday and today to run in that window of time, neither yesterday nor today did that happen. So that meant that yesterday I did my run at the end of the day, and it looks as though the same is gonna have to happen for tonight.

Normally I wouldn't try to force myself to be a morning runner (it goes against my nature in a million ways), but when I return to work in a few weeks, I just know that the best, and possibly only, time of day to run is first thing in the morning. Therefore, I was gonna start to try to establish the routine now so I get used to it, but so far I'm 0-2.

At least I have been getting the running done lately, and maybe, just maybe, I'll find the morning mojo one of these days.

Good morning! *FIRST POST*

Hey, you're getting the runs in, that's awesome! Worry about your running schedule once class starts... you'll find a way then too.

I started working out in the AMs this summer and I love it. Never thought I'd be able to do it. Maybe you'll surprise yourself!

You can totally be a morning runner and maybe you can even sneak a little nap during the day if you end up being super exhausted!

and THAT, my dear Jess, is the #1 reason that I run in the morning.

Not the milking part, but the rest of it...

From one mom to another: sleep! Your body needs it. Will you be able to run during your lunch hour at work? If so, that may be best.

I agree w/Kerrie- SLEEP! Why don't you rest up now and get into that routine if it works for you when you go back to work. I could NOT get up early to workout until Nick was over 6 months old. I needed the sleep - and you do too!

i can't take the early morning runs either. give me sleep anytime.

Best chance of learning to like mornings is to start on some day other than a monday, because even morning people don't like monday mornings.

You have at least *thought* about getting up to run, doesn't that count for something? ;-)

well you have the first step down- i found when working out in the am (when in the crew team our practice started at am!) it was best for me to go bed with the shirt and socks ready to go...

I can't run in the morning. Don't even try. :o)

Good luck!

I have no morning mojo either. No matter what time I go to bed, I take every last possible minute of sleep in the morning that I can get!

Good lukc finding your inner morning runner!

I'm a morning person, so, once you're back to school, you'll appreicate the running break between Norah and the students. It is just one of the 21 day routines....right?

bah! I wouldn't stress over it too much. Run when the opportunity presents itself.

Forget the that noise! Just run at night in the dark. Keep the morning free of activity.

I don't have any advice for you because I'm terrible at getting up early for runs. Good luck!

ugg it can be SO HARD to get going in the morning, especially if you are getting up in the night with a baby or pumping or whatever. you will get it figured out soon enough! i think the first day is the hardest though, so just get yourself out there once and maybe it wont be so bad?

I had to change my workout routine when I became preggers and totally hated doing it, except I was going the opposite way, morning to nights. Now I have to keep my evening workouts because Adam is out of the house by 5:30am so I fly solo in the mornings with the baby. And I am not even back at work yet....once I return to work it will be a challange. I totally understand the dilema your having, it is tough to change up the time when most enjoy working out!

Just bite the bullet and do it, and keep doing if for 3 weeks, it will become your new routine soon, but you will still miss your old one!

I can't stand morning running. And I am a total morning person! I am up at 5am everyday naturally and at work by 6:30, I just can't run though at that hour. I am an afternoon or evening runner so I totally understand what you mean.
But I think that you can do it and that the first day is always the hardest. Great job on getting those runs in, though!

Good luck with changing that schedule!

BTW, I have something for you on my post today! :)

I was just telling my husband tonight how once the baby is here, I'd like to plan on running in the mornings before he leaves for work. His response was basically to laugh; he knows how much I hate mornings :)

I love morning runs. Hope you can get it in.

Everyone is different when it comes to morning running. I am sure you will find out what works best for you

I am so not a morning runner, so I can relate to this. I do enjoy it when I get up though.

I hate morning running. Good luck getting up and getting it done. I've only managed it once or twice since I had kids.

Don't give up- keep trying! I wasn't a morning runner either until 3 months ago. Although I still love to sleep in on rest days, I know it's the only time I can get it done and I focus on how good I'll feel having had finished the run for the day. If I'm tired from the early morning waking, I give myself permission to nap later. :)

Morning runs suck--but stick with it (for 21 days?) and you'll get into the habit of it
