This and That

Last night I sucked up the bowling alley by bowling one of the worst series evah: 117, 113, 111. I might as well have hired a monkey to stand up there and throw my ball for me. On the plus side, Jerry bowled some of his best games evah: 191, 196, 153. The 191 and 196 are the best games he's ever bowled (yet, he was still peeved that he didn't break 200 -- never satisfied is he?).

After bowling, we lingered at the alley bar for some more beers and if it hadn't been a Monday night, I think I could have drank my weight in beer. In was just one of those days.

Today, I've been swamped in work: I have five sets of papers in my possession right now, and I would rather lick the sidewalk than sit down and read them -- both activities sound equally distasteful. It's not that student writers are bad writers, and it's not that their work is terrible to read: It's simply the volume that's tedious. Five sets of papers = 125 papers. They're 2-3 pages each. So, yeah, lots of reading, commenting, correcting, assessing, grading.

If only I taught a subject that didn't require writing. If I could assess them based solely on scantron tests, my life would be WAY more simplistic.

Anyway, despite the literal burial by paper, I did get out for a 3 miler this evening, and it went well (28:32). The air felt a little cooler and a little drier, so dare I say it? I think we may finally be approaching the cooler part of the year! Yay!

Nice run! I think you may have just jinxed yourself though. It was all kinds of fall here and then today it was 85. Ugh!

Assigning papers means I have to GRADE said papers. Thank god I grade a lot of videos.

Matthew and I bowled six games each Saturday. All my games were over 100 and my first was 152. Woo hoo!!!

Way to go Jerry!

Yuck on the papers. I hate writing papers, but I cant imagine how bad it is to grade all them

Hooray for cooler weather.

I hear you on the paper grading thing...not my favorite aspect of teaching either. I use a timer and allot myself about five minutes per paper on a 2 to 3 page paper. If it's taking longer than five minutes, then I just draw a line and write "I stopped reading here...see me" on it...but still 125 papers x 5 minutes each is...I don't know...but it's a lot of time. Hang in there.

Reading and writing... reasons I studied engineering instead.

So glad the weather is getting better for you - I just don't know how you manage with the heat and humidity!

Ugh, all that grading sounds like a nightmare!

Hey, Jerry getting good. A regular Roy Munson,

Scantrons do make life a bit easier! I used to love feeding them through the machine and then guessing which student got what score. LOL

Jerry was on fire, maybe he'll reach his 200 mark next week.

Geesh, that's a lot of freaking reading. Good luck with all those storylines.

Sounds like I am not the only one who is knee deep in paperwork!

Way to get in the 3-miler anyway!

Nice job on the run. Hope you were able to get through all the papers. Sounds like it could be tedious.

Ick good luck with all those papers!

I got a simple solution for you. Shred all the paperworks ! That should do for ya. I am all for the cooler weather. Ain't it GRAND???

It must be such a relief when the temps start dropping... I know it is up here, and we don't get anywhere near the heat/humidity that you do!

Way to jinx it! You will now have three straight weeks of humidity above 90%.

If you had the monkey, you could have drank more.......

Good luck with all those papers. Nice run, by the way.

That weather sounds just about perfect! I'm trying to convince myself that I like to run in the low 50s...before it dives into the low 30s in the next month or so!
