The Tale of a Tail

This morning, I noticed when I walked Scooter that he was bugging and biting at his tail, so when I got back in the house, I examined the area he was paying attention to and I noted that when I moved back the fur, the skin was inflamed and irritated. I figured he'd be fine for the day and I could judge if it had worsened or improved after I got home from work.

So, I got home from work, about 7 hours later, and he had chewed off a dime-sized spot of fur and the irritated skin from the morning was now angry skin (although, not yet scabby and bloody). I called the vet.

Thankfully, the vet was able to get us in this afternoon, so I loaded Scoots up and Jerry met us there on his way home from work. Turns out, it was the same thing he had about a year ago when he tried to lick off the pads of his paws. So he got a steroid shot, a topical spray, and instructions to not bother it. Easier said than done.

Anyway, after I got back from the vet, it was pouring rain, and it's continued pouring ever since, so I think running is out for the evening. So, Jerry went to fetch dinner, and we plan on laying low for the evening (besides, it's "Office" night!).

P.S. Jerry read yesterday's post (below) at work today, so when he met me at the vet's office, he first examined Scooter's tail, and then turned to me and said, "So what the fuck about you opening those damn Starbursts again?"

"Oh, you read that today, huh?" I asked and tried to flash my cutest doe eyes.

"Yeah, and if you open a package of Starburst, you MUST eat whatever is in there, not just the red ones!"

"No, I don't have to. I do what I want," I told him.

"Well, I like the reds too and I want some left for me; otherwise, I get stuck with all the god damn yellows and oranges."

"Okay, I won't do it anymore," I told him.

Little does he know that while he was gone getting us dinner, I relieved another package of its red Starburst, and the other one was a yucky orange, so I promptly deposited that one back in the cauldron. Shit, I'm gonna catch hell for this post tomorrow night, huh?

Poor Scoots.

So funny about the Starbursts. I like the orange ones, is that weird?

Hahaha...I agree. Red is the best and pink is ok too. Yellow tastes like wax and should be replaced. I think the same about skittles and mentos too. Red is always best.

poor puppers. Hope he feels better soon. Your man, he just needs to get over it. If you give him the freakin' remote everytime he's in the room like I give mine, you should get red starburst privilages at Halloween. But then again, I'm pissed at my husband.

send the orange ones here!! :) I'm a hop and skip (I think) from you! :)

I hope Scooters tail gets better. Jaxs always get an irritation on his paws. It is so hard to make them stop licking and biting the spot.

Ok, Jerry's comments sound exactly likw what Matt says to me when I pick the starburts packages apart.

Does Scooter have to wear a cone? Zero always licks and has to wear one. She is neurotic like that.

That's hilarious about the Starburst. I love how you tried to be all cute and flirty with him and when he didn't buy it you were all, "Screw you, I do what I want!"

LOL!

You know what? Open all of them and dump them back in. Then they are fair game. Of course, you may as well toss the orange ones right away. Or put a bunch of them in a bottle of vodka.

Oh no! Poor Scooter...I hope he gets better soon. We took a poll at work recently and the red starbursts was the kind that most people liked the LEAST! It's weird to me that you like the red so much! Hey, they made 'em for someone I guess.

I am all about the reds - we definitely could not coexist if Starburst were in the room.

FYI - you need to update my blog link. Try this: http://dasmixture.typepad.com/my_weblog/

Poor Scooter dog. At least you knew what it was and called the vet right away before that dime size area turned into a fifty cent piece!

As for those darn red starbursts-save me some! I hate the yellow ones too but I do like the orange ones.

From now on, tell Jerry that Scooter ate the red ones. He can't yell at a dog, especially not one recovering from a bum tail.

Sorry for Scooter.

The Starburst bit is hilarious. I was always brought up to eat all the Starbursts, even the ones you didn't like.
