#2000

This post is my 2000th post.

You read that right: A "2" followed by THREE 0s.  I'm like the Betty White of blogging...I've been around for forever!

Thinking back to what I posted 3 and 1/2 years ago when I posted about my 1000th post, I've been forced to wonder if reaching 2000 posts just means I've doubled my amount of wasted time.  To be honest, contemplating my time, and its value, has been on my mind for weeks now, months even, and more often than not lately, maintaining my blog and keeping up with other blogs has become a chore.

Don't get me wrong, I love blogging and love all of the blogging peeps out there, but at the same time, I've grown weary of the medium.  There are many reasons to keep blogging, but ultimately, I feel there is just one major reason to quit: Because I want to.

So, there it is my friends: I'm officially announcing bloggy retirement.

Not effective immediately.  This is just notice:  My final date will be January 21st.

I first posted on this blog on June 21, 2005, so it feels fitting to end it on a date that feels meaningful.  So, in the next week, expect some emotionally-laden posts reminscing about blog posts of yore and join with me in recalling some of my favorite moments of the past 6 and 1/2 years.

There's no doubt I'll miss blogging, and my blogging friends, but I just feel that it's time to move on from here.  Perhaps, at some later date, I'll re-emerge from retirement, a la Jay-Z style, but for the now, this is a permanent decision.

So, happy 2000 posts to my blog!  And, in 8 days, I'll bid it sayonara!

Sniff! sniff! I'll miss yr blog. It's the first running blog I ever read and you seem so down to earth and funny!

And good riddance too!!!

I am kidding of course. Your's was one of the first blogs I bookmarked and read when I first started blogging.

I totally blame your kids (I know you love them) that the famous "bowling night" posts are no longer a regular feature.

Much luck moving forward.

While I will certainly miss the inspiration you provided in the running department, I feel like I'm going to miss seeing the children grow up! So sad ... you've been part of my day for so long I KNOW I'm going to miss you.

Bowing out gracefully is the way to do it. Looking forward to your recap blogs. When I first got back into running two years ago, some of your earlier posts helped me learn to stick with it instead of quiting like I had so many times before.

No, say it ain't so. I love my fix of Caleb and Norah photos but I also understand how busy you must be with two little ones. I will really miss your posts. So if you'd like to reconsider...

I got here a little late in the game and have only been following you for a year or so. I was looking for inspiration as a mommy-to-be trying to figure out how to juggle it all. I'll miss the Caleb updates especially since he's only a few days older than Henry. Best of luck!

I hope that means you are working on more publications so I can say I know someone who published a book on the NY top sellers list.

Even though I see Norah and Caleb pretty frequently, I will miss the updates and pictures. Maybe FB will be the picture outlet?

Either way, you have stuck with blogging (interesting blogs I might add) for a long time. Change is good.

So, so sad! I check your blog every day and will miss it a lot. : )

Oh sad! I hear you though, sometimes blogging can get old and I imagine with two kids, it's hard to find the time.

I'll miss reading!

That's all bananas. 2000? quitting? sounds like someone else has taken control of your mind and is making you speak uncontrollably with torette's or something. We'll miss you girl.

I just started following your blog about a month ago! So bummed, but I understand!

I am lousy at commenting but I have been reading your blog for about 4 years now and I will miss it so much!

I found your blog while looking for running related blogs and I have followed as you ran through 2 pregnancies and I just love the pix of the kids. You have inspired me to keep running, even though I have a child myself now and it is difficult to find that time.

As a fellow mom, I understand that your time is valuable and me-time is scarce, so I respect your decision to stop blogging.

Just know that there are folks out there who will miss you!

I will miss reading your blog. I found you as a running blog 3 or 4 years ago. You were an inspiration for me while I was pregnant to stay active. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

I will miss your blog. I found you waaaaay back (ha!) in 2007 when I was trying my own "21 days to a habit" experiment (which was successful), and shortly thereafter, I started my own blog in large part due to inspiration from yours.

My little squirt is younger than Norah, and I went back and re-read your preggo running posts when I was struggling with my own pregnancy and running. I also file away all of your Norah notes in preparation for dealing with my own terrible two!

I consider you a friend, and you've helped me through hard times, even though I'm such a lurker that you probably never knew it. :-) I will be very sad to see your blog go inactive, and I will miss seeing your kiddos grow and reading hilarious poop stories!

Best wishes for a long and healthy and running life for you and Jerry and Norah and Caleb. Thank you for writing for all these years!

Wishing you much happiness WITHOUT blogging, but I will miss seeing the little tots growing up before my eyes.

LMAO Jamoosh, you nailed it perfectly, my thoughts exactly!!!

Aww, your blog has always been one of my favorites. I started reading way before Norah and have loved your humor through all of it.

I wish you all the best!

Aww you will be missed, for sure. I always feel like I am reading about my life on your blog! But I can totally appreciate your feelings... I let it go with the birth of my first. Two kids later and there is absolutely no time for me... except to keep reading my favorites! HA! Best wishes to you and your family!

Wow, no more mud butt? I was so looking forward to reading about the kid's weddings. Oh well, 2012 is the end for sure now!

I will miss your blog too! I found you when I googled "running & pregnant" or something like that and I have loved your blog ever since. I can't get over the 2,000 posts!! As for your writing and humor I hope you continue it in some fashion, you truley have a talent, that is something I have never been able to do and I really think you do it fabulously!

Excellent news. More readers for me!

Kidding of course - take some time off and we'll be here when you are ready to start back up in a few months :)

Agate Lake Girl said...

Say it isn't so?! Maybe you could just post once every couple of weeks or once a month. At least for a while. You can't make me quit cold turkey - it's not good for a person! :)

Desperate plea aside, congrats on the 2000 posts. You've made me laugh... cry... laugh until I cried. All good things my friend!

Wes said...

what, 2000? I've been blogging as long as you and I ain't even up to 1000 yet. blabber mouth :-)

Aww...I'm so bummed to read this! You are a great writer and I have loved reading your blog. I feel bad that I've been a lurker all this time.

You once posted, "You aren't in competition with anyone - even yourself" and it really struck a cord with me. It's often my mantra now. :)

Thank you for all you've shared & best of luck to you and your family.

Ironic that you announced you're leaving the blog on Friday the 13th?

Matt said...

Thanks a shame! I've only just started reading it!!!

As much as I don't like "Kate" as in Jon & Kate plus 8, I feel the same way when she split about your kids. and you too of course but I loved seeing them grown and hearing all about them. I feel like a distant aunt. I could cry thinking I won't know when those milestone roll around. boohoo, yeah it's all about me.

Sorry for the pity party. But You and your family will sorely be missed. I hope that you pop around from time to time with updates for us. I think you know me on FB too and have my email. I respect you for making the choice that works for you right now.

Enjoy your new found freedom! Many many thanks for sharing a peek into your lives with me. You made me feel like a young mom again.

Good for you! Retire in your prime. You've had a great run. Congrats on your 2,000 posts and your pending retirement. Thankfully, you're already in the right state for retirees. Hope to see you lurking around the sites, but if not it's been nice ... reading you? Whatever. Cheers!

I'm really going to miss your blog. I found real inspiration in your words and your use of humour always made me feel normal in my goals and journey.

I hope you keep posting, even if it's less often.

No!!!! I love your blog and I will be sad to see you go. You always make me laugh and I am still trying to challenge myself to run 21 days in a row. 2000 posts....that is amazing!

Thanks for sharing your life with us for so long - as a fellow south Florida runner, yours was the very first blog I bookmarked. Wishing you all the best.

Mel said...

Sorry to see you go. I've been a lurker on your blog for years and have enjoyed reading.

So sad. I am not a blogger or commenter, and your blog is the only one I read. I found you in 2009 when I was pregnant with my first kid and trying to figure out the running/pregnancy thing. I am now also running, working, and mothering a 20 month old and a 4 month old. You certainly provided inspiration - so NOT a waste of time. I understand moving on. Life is so busy with 2 little ones.

How about semi-retirement only??? Making an appearance once in a while, reading blogs only without feeling the need to comment. And maybe even posting a few pics and a quick update every few months? Just maybe?? Even though I am not a runner, I have read your blog for 3 years, after I found it having googled 21 days to get me on track loosing 50 pounds.

Hi...I found your blog looking for reviews on garmins. I'm also a working mother runner and occasional blogger...www.robynandjon.blogspot.com. It's fun watching other moms juggling it all!

Good luck from Colorado.

I found your blog when my husband and I first started trying to have a baby. Our race times are within seconds of each other, and I really wanted to know if it was possible to run during pregnancy, and more importantly after. I'm 37 weeks now, and I can't tell you how much your blog has meant to my ability to run through 6 1/2 months of pregnancy. In addition, I've signed up for a 10k at 8 weeks post, and reading your blog gave me the confidence to know that I can and will run it, while pushing my new baby peanut. Best of luck in life, but please know that you've been an inspiration to other new mommies.

Jess I will be so sad to see you go. I know I've rarely had time to commit any more but I still read regularly and I will miss seeing your updates in my google reader.

And like Jamoosh, I really, really miss the awesome bowling night posts!

I'm glad we're friends on FB and Daily Mile so I can still keep up with you!

What??? Noooooooo!!! I totally understand though- some days I feel like blogging is such an obligation and it does worry me that I am putting so much personal information out there.

You will be greatly missed- loved reading all the various topics you have posted on over the years.

Hopefully you will reconsider!!
