Some is Better than None

That's been my rationale so far this week in regards to running.

With the return to work, and everyone getting settled into our change in daily routine, fitting running into the mix has been tough.  So, I've been mainly running 2 milers because of time constraints.  A 2 miler feels like it barely counts as a run, but at least it's something.

I'm hoping that Caleb soon starts sleeping through the night, or if nothing else, at least develops a predictable sleep schedule at night.  He's had some nights that would count as a full night's sleep (9 pm-5 am) but those have been rare; mostly, he gets up once or twice, but the timing is never the same.  That makes planning for an early morning run (the time of day when I probably have the most leeway in terms of fitting something in) tough.  Plus, I'll be honest, when I'm up with him at 3 am, my brain most often goes, "Get up again at 5 to run?!  Ha!  No thanks."

To his credit, we often put him down for the night between 7:30 and 8, so to sleep from then until 2 or 3 am is pretty good for a baby who's not yet 3 months old, but on the other hand, I don't go to sleep at 8 pm!  So, it'd be nice for ME to get 7 or 8 hours of solid sleep.  I feel like once his sleep becomes more consistent, my running will become more consistent.  But, maybe I shouldn't be waiting for that.  Certainly, other sleep deprived moms manage those early morning runs...

...however, I'm convinced they are cyborgs.

Yeah, I've been "planning to run in the morning before the boys wake up" for 13 months!!! Just when I think 6:30 is the normal wake up time, they thrown down a week of 5:30. Uh, no running will be done before 5:30, thank you very much.

Cyborgs, indeed!

LOL, I talk myself out of waking up and I don't have a kid at home!

ha! I had to google what cyborg meant! lol...When Boden got to be predictible is when I got my running house in order so in time it will happen. I am still cracking up that I had never heard what a Cyborg is!
Have you tried a "dreamfeed". Like before you go to bed get Caleb to nurse, he will probably just sleep through it and eat for you and then won't wake up at 2 or 3am! It worked WONDERS for me! Good luck :)

Kudos for you for getting 2 milers in. I usually can't get myself out there when I know I don't have time for at least three miles, so I end up doing nothing. 2 is MUCH better than nothing!

Well, by that time, you can push him around in the stroller, right? I'm kidding. Here's hoping he'll keep improving his sleep patterns!

Yeah I remember when I first heard that 5 straight hours counted as sleeping through the night. I was like...but I don't go to bed at 7:30so it really doesn't help!!

I think 2 miles definitely counts! I'm really nervous about the lack of sleep thing in the future if we have kids. I really like sleeping.

Running, not sleeping, and raising a baby ... SUPER WOMAN!!! Two milers or not, that's impressive!

My kids sleep through the night from 9-9 and I still don't run in the morning LOL. Hope he settles in for you soon.

run! how far matters not, until you decide it does :-)

I never managed early morning runs, even when Eva would wake me up at 5am for a feeding and then go back to sleep. I decided sleep was preferable to going out for a run.

you will get there! for now, get more rest! This time will go fast and you'll be back at it in no time. Some is definitely better than none but don't get down about it because you'll be back into your routine before you know it.

Ha, I just started going to bed at 8 when the baby does! But even then I'm still operating on maybe 6 hours of sleep a night, and I'm with you: sometimes sleep just seems more important than a run. I'm sure this all evens out, though, right? Good luck!
