Monday Miscellany

  • We decided to take the "wait and see" approach before calling the baby head specialist about Caleb's cranium.  I really don't think the flat spot is that dramatic, and I kinda think that with a little time and some more neck strength, he'll eventually even out.  I don't think his brain is getting dented, so we'll wait another month and see what the pediatrician thinks at his 3 month check up.
  • Ran a 3 miler tonight and the volume on my Shuffle wouldn't adjust.  It was set at what is probably Apple's recommended volume, but I prefer a more damaging decibel, so it annoyed me that the gadget was on the volume-fritz.
  • This is my last week of summer.  Next Tuesday, I return to work and Norah and Caleb go to "school."  I can't believe my summer, and thus my maternity leave, are almost over!  It's gone WAY too fast.
  • Norah went to see her first movie in a movie theater on Saturday.  Jerry took her to see "Cars 2."  The entire experience lasted about 50 minutes, and her most memorable part seems to have been the popcorn.

wait and see is probably a good idea, maybe an alternative *if* the wait is long is to consider making an appt and cancel if you decide to (my experience with specialists is that it takes FOREVER to get in).

We were going to take Rylee to see Cars 2 on Sunday, but then the rain storm hit and we were too lazy to go outside.

I agree with Lisa on the make the appointment and cancel technique. I've used that with Rylee's tummy specialists in the past.

What did Jerry think of Cars 2? I've heard it's pretty violent and not the cute story that the first movie was.

Wait and see sounds like a good idea - but I do agree with Lisa to check on the wait at the specialist's office.

The volume dosen't work because it's an Apple Product. Apple Products suck the big one.

I didn't realize you guys had this concern with Caleb's head... sounds like you are comfortable with your decision and that's all that matters.

Our girls got scared the first time in the theater too. But the second time... they both loved it. Now we live near a $1.50 theater so they can go see movies a lot. especially during the summer.

You're right about this summer going by too fast. It's been a blur. A good reminder to make sure we enjoy the time we have. Cheers!

Ok 50 mins would be monumental for Eli, go Norah!! My little Eli over here gives a new meaning to "ants in the pants" So sorry to hear you have to go back to work :( I hated when my maternity leave ended.

goodness back to work so soon, doesn't seem like maternity leave at all. So glad i moved back to the UK. I get a year with decent pay too. Really wish America would follow the rest of the world and make maternity leave and some form of pay the law. Quite frankly its outrageous.
You do right with the flat head thing too. I'm an orthotist - the one who makes the helmets, keep an eye on him and go with your gut.
Enjoy your last few weeks.

My oldest child had this. The pediatrician told us to help him do little exercises. Boiled down to baby flat on his back and turning his head carefully from side to side (slowly and holding it) and holding his little chin to stretch out the neck muscles.

Example: On his back. Turn his head gently to the left as far as you can by holding his chin gently (there's a natural curve inward so that the chin rests on the chest/shoulder) and hold it for a count of 10. Turn his head back the other way slowly using the same technique. Hold again for a count of 10.

His head's not flat anymore. 'Course now he's 11.
