The Bubble

There are two certainties in this world when you have a new baby: One, you're not gonna sleep much.  And two, you're gonna live in what I call "the baby bubble."  Meaning, you have no clue what is going on outside your own little world.  This has been true for us as it is true for most parents of new babies, and it has been exacerbated this summer by our choice to get rid of cable.

So, I have basically NO clue what has been going on this summer if it doesn't involve how much Caleb slept last night or whether or not we have fruit squeezees in the house for Norah.  Therefore, I honestly had no idea that a HURRICANE was forming in the Atlantic and pretty much headed straight our way.  Wah?  I thought it felt extra humid...

Looks like it won't hit us directly (fingers crossed) and my guess is that it will steer pretty clear of South FL in general.  Still, we'll probably get lots of heavy rain and wind this week as it nears the coast.

So, the current running conditions here in South FL?  Holy humid, Batman!  I ran a 3 miler tonight and I may as well have been breathing pea soup!  I checked the weather when I got home and saw that the dew point was 76 -- I should've just continued to live in ignorance rather than know that.  As my favorite dew point reference will tell you: A 76 dew point can be described as "extremely uncomfortable" -- which is like saying that Charlie Sheen is a "little bit crazy."  C'mon!  He's batshit crazy, and a dew point of 76 is F-ing* miserable!

Yet, I ran one of my "faster" times.  Go figure.  Maybe it was so uncomfortable, I just had to go faster to get back in the A/C!

It'll probably be a pretty wet, humid week in terms of getting running done, and let's hope that Hurricane Irene decides to stay well out there in the Atlantic -- because if it comes through here, high humidity will be the least of my concerns.  And the good news is that typically after a hurricane blows through, we enjoy a few days of clear, beautiful weather.  So...next week should be pleasant!

*Yeah, I used to drop f-bombs on here without thinking about it, but this is a family-friendly place now...dangit!

Ha, love the Charlie Sheen comparison! We had some days with dew points in the 70s during July and I agree with you, totally miserable.

I don't even have a baby anymore and sometimes I feel like I live in a bubble. Of course, living so close to DC, sometimes I do that intentionally. ;o)

I don't have a baby for an excuse, but I still feel like I'm in the bubble- that cable-free lifestyle will do that to you! We haven't had cable for years and we miss it every once in a while, but not often enough to fork over that monthly payment. Hope Irene behaves!

You aren't missing anything without cable because all it is right now is hurricane hype. Although I am sure it will just be icky conditions here, I am already prepping in my mind where stuff will go. This would be the first one in our new house and well...lots of crap that needs to find a home if the storm does head our way. I probably should be worried about going into labor as the barometer drops but since we are within 10 minutes of the hospital...I figure I can make it hurricane or not.

I guess with a husband that's a tv news producer, I'm never going to live in that sort of bubble! But sometimes I kind of intentionally do so. He'll be like, "How do you not know about that story?"

Hope the hurricane doesn't hit you.

LOL at family friendly place! How things change. :)

I hope the storm steers clear, but leaves you with a reprieve from the humidity! F'ing miserable sounds about right...

Yes the bubble. I know it well. Hope the hurricane isn't an issue for you. Stay safe!

Besides the hurricane, I think you're better off not knowing certain things, at least that's how I see it.

I remember the bubble! Last summer I caught the end of the top 20 pop countdown and was shocked to realize I had never even heard the #1 song.

You are very brave to run in that high humidity. I would be passing out on the side of the road because I wouldn't be able to breathe.

Oh that dam dew point is so annoying! We had a few days up here when it got that miserable I could not run in it, so nasty!!

I hope the hurricane doesn't hit and stays out to sea as well, we have Eli's birthday party this weekend and it is all planned outdoors, they said it could be up our way (very slim possibility but it would still be miserable weather) over the weekend...
