Humid 10 Miler

This morning, I got up at 5 am in order to be ready and out the door for my 10 miler by 5:30. The heat and humidity have been so high the past week that I wanted to be sure I got my 10 miles done early in the day -- I didn't really want to be out there much past 7 am (it's just past 9 am right now and it's 87 and by early afternoon, we're supposed to have low 90s again today). Before I left, I checked the weather and while the temp was moderate (77 degrees), it was humid (85%).

By the time I got to the 2 mile point, I was drenched in sweat, and I was kinda doubting the quality of this run, but this is typical thinking for me on a long run -- it takes a few miles for me to settle into it, but once I'm settled in, I usually enjoy the mileage. That was true this morning. After the 3 mile point, I was enjoying the run even though it was so warm out. That's FL in the summer; I just have to live with it.

So, the run was good. Still no Garmin, so I don't know what my time or pace were, but it felt pretty strong -- like I was able to maintain a pretty steady pace. And I was back a little after 7, which is really nice. It's tough getting out of bed early, but I sure like getting it done early in the day!

Yeah, I think summer has come to the south earlier this year than last. At least we're only in the mid 70s in the morning out Houston way. But good for you - pushing the elements aside for 10 miles!

85%! Eww. I have the same thoughts during the first few miles of long runs. I'm fighting the urge to call someone to pick me up the whole way - which is really pretty silly since i generaly prefer 3-4 miles runs. I am my own worst enemy! Nice job on getting it done (and so early!)

Great job! I know that how bad running in humidity can be. I don't know how you do it.

With that said...I still want to move to Florida. I woke up to SNOW this morning.

It's impressive to be back from a 10 mile run by 7! I couldn't stand the humidity. You are amazing to get through it. But I had the opposite problem today racing. IT WAS COLD!

Steamy! Meanwhile, there was snow on the ground here this morning when I started my run. There must be a happy medium. :)

I was just thinking about waking up tomorrow morning to get my 10 miles in instead of today because while we did have snow this morning, it is now about 40 degrees with the windchill and gusting to about 30mph. Yuck!! But then I think of being drenched in sweat and very humid...hmmm...
I think I would rather do it now than get up at 5 am tomorrow. I am not what you would call a morning person.

I am pretty excited to try a new gel on my run. My father in law is into Mona-Vi. It is basically a line of products using the acai berry and it has the gel as one of the products. Very tasty, we'll see if it gives me the boost.

great job on the 10 miler - ugh, running in the humidity is brutal!

way to get it done although I will take you humidity over our current 60k winds. (i say that now but will probably change my mind once it gets hot here)

I'd have to give up running if I lived down there...

Good job getting up and getting it done. I've started project "become a morning person" and I'm not enjoying it.

It always feels great to get a good run in first thing in the morning. Makes the day already feel accomplished.

Could you please send some heat (and even humidity) up to Southern Ontario/Canada?! We're at just over freezing for Mother's Day - brrr! (note: this is not our usual temp for this time of year!).
Just wanted to wish you a happy first mother's day, jess - love your blog!
