President's Day 3 Miler

This morning, Norah and I went for another 3 miler with her in the BOB and me pushing.

This time, I decided to take along the Garmin to see what kind of damage pushing the stroller did to the pace, and I was surprised to find that I could maintain a 10:30 min/mile pace, so I finished the 3 miler in 31:38, which isn't that much slower than what I'm normally capable of. It is a harder run pushing the stroller, but I figure it will just make me stronger, and, maybe, faster when I run without it.

Glad you are liking the BOB. Just wait until Norah gets bigger and heavier and you are running with her:-) Well done Jess.

Great job! Those strollers may be easy to push but they add a whole new element to a run.

Hopefully Norah is doing her part to help out!

jess: here is another tidbit. the BOB is not meant for you to hold on and push it constantly. it moves so well the thought behind it is for you to slightly push it; not holding on the whole time and then you run behind it...that way your hands arent clamped onto it the entire time. it wont get away from you; i promise.

Way to go! If I run a lot with the stroller, I definitely notice a difference when I switch back to without..it justy feels easier.

Running with the BOB will make you stronger, especially if your route is hilly. I get in the habit of running with one hand on it, switching hands every few minutes (along with switching which hand the safety wrist strap is on).

Also, if you don't have the handlebar console I recommend it. It's two drink holders and a zipper pocket. I also like the rain hood, which I need often here in the Pacific Northwest.

That's great that the stroller isn't slowing you down too much, even if it's a greater effort. You're right - this will make you stronger AND faster!

it will make you stronger and strengthen muscles you didn't know you had!

It's exciting to hear about your success running with your new baby and BOB - congrats. It's also very promising since I am a runner expecting a baby in May and just got my BOB delivered yesterday. Can't wait to get back on the road.

You are going to be one buff mamma! Keep up the great running and I'm glad to see Nora is enjoying it, too! :)

I think so too. Resistance is a good thing. Remember Conan pushing the lever around and around and as he got older and stronger all the other peeps were gone until it was just him. Norah will keep getting bigger and bigger and you'll get stronger and stronger :-)

Hmm,maybe I should dig out our stroller and use it for resistance training. You are doing great!

Glad to have you amoung the ranks of jogging stroller runners. It will make your stronger and faster. Plus it will help you appreciate those lone runs more. Norah will get to see first hand what mom is doing to make herself health and strong.

I switch hands while pushing so I have one arm to 'swing.' It helps to keep my shoulders relaxed. Plus it rolls so nicely (when the tires are properly inflated) that I can push it and let it roll. Remember the wrist strap just in case.
