Just the Facts

Here are the facts:
  • I don't like running on treadmills.
  • Mentally, I find then to be nearly as mind-numbing as watching grass grow.
  • Also, they give me vertigo.
But here too are the facts:
  • In FL, it's hot outside for most of the year.
  • That means that for most of the year, running outside is best either first thing in the morning or late in the evening.
  • My schedule with work and kids does not always allow me to utilize those times of the day for running.
  • Also, I like to sleep.
Then there are these facts:
  • We don't have a treadmill at home -- they are big; we have a small condo.
  • But, I do have FREE access to the campus gym where there is a row of treadmills.
  • In air conditioned comfort.
  • Also, did I mention FREE?
So, today, after my afternoon class, I slipped into my running stuff and hit the gym, and thus the treadmill.  And here are these facts:
  • I got my 3 miler done.
  • And, I got it done in 30:05.  A 10:02 min/mile average!
  • That's the fastest 3 miler I've run post-Caleb!
  • Also, I hung at a 9:22 pace for about half a mile at the end.  I felt like it might kill me, but I did it!  Awesome Sauce.

Huzzah! Treadmills ain't my first choice, but I've learned to live with them. Welcome to the dark/rolly side.

I have an awesome treadmill! But I really don't like running on it either. Total feel ya!

You'll get used to the treadmill, I promise. It just takes time. Right now, I'm accustomed to outdoor running and it pains me to run on the treadmill. However, once winter rolls around and I develop treadmill habits, I'd much rather crank up the ole treadmill. Weird, I know!!

This was a fun post Jess!

And yes, sometimes treadmills are a necessary evil!

I hate them too but I find that constantly changing the settings helps the time go more quickly- like every 30 seconds I up the speed by .1 mph, until I'm going pretty fast, then I put it down by .1. Lame but it keeps me engaged.

Speed intervals on the mill are a sanity saver!

Free is always good.

Yeah treadmills kind of suck, but they definitely serve their purpose. Gotta get me some of that Awesome Sauce!

I hate treadmills too. Over the winter I had a treadmill mishap during marathon training and I've not touched one since. Great job on the time, you'll be back to normal soon. Any future race plans?

If you are trying to learn something (for school or for fun, like a foreign language), do flash cards on the treadmill. I studied for my last big exam that way.

Those are nice facts, ma'am. Solid effort. Good day. Cheers!

I hate the treadmill too but I'm glad you got it done. You could have just skipped your workouts and blame the heat like I have this past month and a half :)

That's the cool thing about treadmills - you plug in the pace you want to run and you HAVE TO RUN (or fall off). Sounds like a good option!

That is awesome! I have heard that it is supposedly easier to run on a treadmill than outside, but I must have one crappy treadmill b/c I find it much harder than running outdoors!

Good for you! I do lots of treadmill running from December to March and I can tell you I am nearly JUMPING out of my skin late March when most of our snow and the freezing cold weather is gone and I can get out and run again! So I hear you 100% on the mind numbing run that it is!
