Dr. Update: The Due Date Looms

I must have a really awesome uterus.

Because my kids seem to just wanna hang out in there.

I had my regular weekly dr. check up this morning (I'm 39 weeks and 2 days), and...still nothing doing.  Caleb seems to be in there like, "Hey, it's warm, I'm cozy.  I think I'll just continue to chillax and kick my mom in the ribs in here."

I've been trying to be as patient as possible, knowing that babies come when they come (or come when modern medicine intervenes), but I'm also just plain tired of being pregnant.  So, to virtually have the same last few weeks as I did with Norah (dilated 1 cm for about a month with little/no sign of progressing), feels a bit frustrating.

I know that my due date isn't until Sunday, so it's not as though he's officially late.  Yet.

So, after the exam, the dr. and I chatted and determined the following course of action: Wait another week, hoping that I'll naturally go into labor in that timeframe, and if I don't, then I'm scheduled to go in Wed, June 1st for an induction.  The induction would follow the same pattern of steps as it did when I was induced with Norah -- going in the evening of the 1st and beginning with the Cervidil and then following up the next morning with a cocktail of Pitocin.

Again, I hope to go into labor on my own, but again, I'm thankful to also have a back-up course of action.  Knowing that there's an end in sight is helpful; logically, I know I can't be pregnant for forever, but at this point, it kinda feels as though I will be.

Of course, if I do get induced late next week, it will mean that Caleb will entirely miss both of his Grandmas' planned visits.  Jerry's mom is planning on leaving tomorrow, and my mom arrives on Thursday, but is scheduled to fly home on Wed, the 1st, so he could miss her too.  I know that they were both very well aware that scheduling their trips as they did meant that they could miss his birth, but it still disappoints me that both their trips could be in vain.

Ah well, we'll see what happens in the next week or so.

I'm just crossing my fingers that his chill attitude in the womb (which is the same as Norah's) means that he'll have her same easy-going, laid-back personality as a newborn.  Norah was pretty much the world's easiest newborn, and if I get even a smidgen of that with Caleb, I have no reason to complain about going to or past my due date.

With my recent (2nd) pregnancy, I went to the doc on a Friday (4 days before the due date). I was barely dilated and hearing that SUCKED. My midwife advised me to have a glass of wine that night - to chill out. Reluctant (I am not comfortable really having even a sip of alcohol while preggo) - I made a fantastic steak dinner and poured myself a goblet of red wine, under doctor's orders. Not 2 hours later.. I started feeling contractions! I was able to sleep through the night comfortably but still felt them... felt them mildly all day Saturday and went into full on labor by 4pm (2 hours after my Mom arrived from Florida!) and Henry was born by 11:35pm that night! In addition to the wine, towards the end of the pregnancy, I bounced on the yoga ball whenever I had a second and ate a ridiculous amount of pineapple (amongst all the other old wives suggestions)!

I also did all the above (minus the wine) while preggo with my 1st... who was evicted 13 days post due date! So - you really never know but it COULD be any second! HANG TIGHT! Maybe your Mom will bring labor with her!

Hopefully he'll arrive any day now!! I was induced with my daughter and it went well but I sure did miss getting to just go into labor on my own, so much so that if I have another one, I will hope to be able to avoid induction then. So hopefully, you'll get to go on your own and soon!

Ihope it's soon for you!!, the wine suggestion is a good one. Maybe a longer than usual walk? Other than that, not sure what you can do. Fingers crossed for you!

Hope he decides to come out soon! With Shoo, I went from "this baby is going to be hanging out in here forever" to holding him in less than 10 hours. So, you never know...

That kid needs an eviction notice! I hope he comes while his grandparents are there.

I know you're anxious for him to arrive, but it's not at all uncommon for the baby to come closer to his due date..anything else would be early.

You shouldn't expect him to come because he isn't due yet, right?

Be patient, he'll get here right on time! :)

I was watching a show on TV and I think hot sauce induces labor. TV is like the internet, so it must be true.

Thinking good thoughts! Caleb will be out soon enough and you will be able to share all of his adorable-ness with all of us :) Can't wait to meet him, and I bet Norah can't wait to meet her new brother.
