Single Parenting: Part Deux

Jerry is in Orlando for a conference for the next few days, so it's just me and the niblet until Friday......And I think she may already be ready to strangle me ;)

Thankfully, I again have the help of my trusty friends Erin and Ryan, who will be picking Norah up from daycare and watching her both Wed and Thurs evenings while I'm in class. If it weren't for them, Norah would be attending night class and learning about poetry! Actually, as a baby, she might enjoy the sound of poetry more than some of my students do!

Anyhoo...in Norah + running business, I have been keeping up with the runs as of late, but I've been keeping them short and have been primarily been running with Norah in the jogging stroller. Sometimes she falls asleep, but sometimes she stays awake the entire time but doesn't make a peep. Yesterday, it rained a bit on us during our run, and her barefeet got a little wet, but she didn't complain -- what a trooper!

But while I have been running, I feel like it's lost some of its purpose since I don't have a schedule right now and no certain race plans. I know that April-October are typically maintenance months for me here in FL, but I think I will still find a few 5Ks and try to put together some kind of schedule for the next few months that just helps me feel like the running has some significance to it. Most of you guys experience this cycle in the opposite time of year as I do; any suggestions for the off season?

Okay, Norah's in bed now, so I'm gonna catch up with some DVR'd shows that I missed last night (I was getting my ass handed to me in racquetball -- have yet to win a game of that), so toodles!

Spring/Summer have been my maintenance seasons the past few years also and it's really easy to lose focus with nothing major to train for. Cute pic, love your necklace!

Because of running Disney this year, I didn't really end up with an 'off' season and last year I was out with my shoulder injury, so I really can't offer anything here!

I think finding a few short races sounds like a good idea to keep you motivated. If it were me, I'd probably also be selecting races for fall/winter.

does it make you appreciate Jerry when he's gone? It's hard being a single mom!! I also find it hard to get on a schedule when I don't have anything on the horizon to train for.

In the "off season" I tried to set a weekly mileage goal. This past winter it was 20 mpw. I didn't hit it very often, but at least it kept me out there running.

I'm not sure I have an "off" season as I seem to always be training for something, but when I don't have an official plan, I try to hit a minimum number of miles. I also try to have at least one "faster" workout and one "longer".

Hope the week goes well for you.

I'm so sorry to say this....but Norah looks like Jerry. I know, my kids are the same way. It absolutley sucks to have been the one who carried them for 9 months, puked your guts out for them, labored for weeks with them (so it seemed) and then pushed them out of your body only to have them look like their daddy!! She is absolutely adorable!! I love my Norah pictures.

Oh my gosh...love your daughter's chubby cheeks!! Where I live from Oct to April there are not many races...I just try and keep my mileage up.

I'm single parenting this week too - it's great to have people to help you out!

During the winter months, I try to run a couple of 5K's and focus on some other cross training. Of course, that's also to make me less likely to put my head though a wall because of my hatred for winter. :)

Have you thought about cycling during the warmer months? that would be fun, and swimming. There's always swimming ;-)

I never know what to do in the summer with running. I don't like to run if it's more than 80 degrees out.

Norah looks so much like Jerry in that photo. Does daddy also have a predilection for strangulation? Kidding.

Enjoy your one-on-one time together.

I have the same feeling with my running since I don't have anything penned in next. Everything is in pencil. It's nice to not have the pressure but I like having a goal to look forward to! (right now it's checking up on posts - heehee)
