Race Pics

So, normally, I don't buy official race pics because I always look terrible in them. But, I was browsing pics from the A1A Half from 2 weeks ago and was surprised to discover that I liked one. You can view it here.

But, when I went to buy it, I was shocked (shocked!) to see how much it cost. I was thinking I'd pay, like, a few cents, maybe a dollar for it. Nooooooo. If you went to the above link, you saw the prices. Absurd, I tell you, absurd! So, of course, I tried the illegal copy/pasting route, but the damn thing is copyright protected (damn you, federal laws!), so unless I want to fork over $15 (minimally), I don't get this pic.

Kinda pisses me off.

Have you guys ever actually purchased a race pic? Did you sell your plasma to buy it?

I was going to purchase a pic from my first half marathon, but then was able to copy and save... lol. So I saved myself a buttload of money and there isn't a copyright stamp running across any of the pics.. I just can't get over how much they charge for that crap!

It is a great pic though!

If you don't mind that copyright text, you could always take a screenshot and then crop it.

I paid for 2 5X7's of my first half in Feb. and they weren't that much.

I agree, it's a FANTASTIC shot of you! I'd go with XM and do the screenshot thing.

Race pic prices are EXTORTIONATE. $28.99 for a digital? Ugh!

I did buy the full digital set from my first marathon... it was maybe $60 but there were more than a dozen excellent shots so it was worth it (to me) for the package.

With this one, just do a "Print Screen", paste in Paint (or similar), save as a JPG and crop. Not ideal, but at least you can save the image that way. That's what I usually go.

(GREAT SHOT BTW!)

I have an even better solution than the screenshot but I can't figure out a way to contact you and don't just want to post it here.... My contact info is on my site.

That's such a cute pic. You should buy it. In the grand scheme of life, $15 isn't all that bad, esp for a good running picture. I always look kind of awkward in my race pics. I've bought a picture only once - my first marathon. And it was pricey, but I'm glad I have it.

You look fabulous, I would totally fork over the cash if I looked half that good while running.

But um, yeah, that is a little steep...

ooh I love that picture! You look happy and fit. I was going to get a pic from Boston last year and couldn't do it! My very first race I was giddy and bought the picture.

The prices are CRAZY. I was going to get a picture from Thunder Road but I just could not make myself pay what they were charging. I'll have to live off of my memories and the tiny screen shots of each proof. :)

I've only ever bought one race photo. It was me finishing my marathon doing a wizzard of oz-ish heel kick over the finish line.

Also, you can get that picture without the copyright text on it if you're quick with the print screen button. I've done that a number of times with brightroom.

I am positive that as participation in races has gone up, so has the price of photos.

I bought a few several years back, but they were only like $7.00 a piece.

I can't believe how much they charge for race photos! It makes me SICK! But I did break down and buy one... and I paid the $20 to have the digital copy of it. Yuck. :(

great pic!

My hubby ran that race too and they had some great shots of him, but was just too much for me to shell out :(

I agree, race photos are way too expensive, I think they would sell a lot more photos and make a lot more money if they reduced prices by about 80%. That is an awesome photo, though!

Great photo's, you look like you are running strong and having fun.

I usually spring for a good photo if it is a special race...ie marathon, triathlon...but those are really good shots!

That's a great picture. I've never bought one because I always look like I want to die in them.

I sold plasma to buy my husband a barbecue grill for Christmas in college. Does that count?! Great pic!

Yeah, it's a total rip-off, but I bought the crossing-the-finish-line one from my marathon. All my race pictures are always awful, but that one was pretty good and marked the first 26.2, so I gave up the $15 for the 5x7. I have no regrets because it's a nice picture and yours is much better than mine...you look so fit and cute! I would splurge this once.

I've been collecting official photos (about 1 per year) of events that Husband & I do together that has both of us in the photo. Otherwise, no.

BTW, that is a nice photo and from a race with a PR...just sayin'

I bought first marathon and some others. Some smaller companies still charge a reasonable price. My very favorite marathon pic was taken by a friend. Having said that it is a good pic and I would be tempted to buy it.

Great photo! I agree though, prices for race photos are out of control. I don't usually buy them, but if it's a bigger race (half marathon or triathlon), I'll splurge and get a photo if there's a decent one.

that is a good race pic. yea they are expensive, but it depends on the market. i've bought one framed pic from a triathlon, but it was only $35. friend in michigan gets her race pics for $4 each.

I generally only buy them for big races. There are ways to download these pictures, though you have to put up with the copyright text on the photo. I usually use firefox browser for these kinda things. There is a page info function that shows all the links and images and you can usually save from there

I bought all of my pictures from my first marathon. I haven't bought any others. I wish they'd offer a low resolution digital option for a few bucks so that I could at least have a copy for my blog/computer rather than having to do the cut/paste method.

It is a great picture though.

I have a snipper tool so I have the picture. I had your email when I was going to make my blog private so I emailed it to you!

No, i've never purchased one because they're too expensive. You're right, yours is super cute though.

That is a great photo! I did buy one from my first half marathon. Then I encouraged my husband to get into photography where he spends thousands of dollars in photo equipment.....not sure I recommend that route...but I do get really inexpensive photos!!!

Those are some pretty darn good race pics.
The only one I ever bought was a group shot from Bay to Breakers. The cost of 3 prints was about the same as 1, so I got the set of 3 and sent the other 2 out to friends as a thank you for putting up with my fatigued, dehydrated, chaffed self during the race!

Those are great photos! I can't believe that you won't spend $22 on a luggage tag. HA!
No, I would NOT ever in a million years pay that for a race.

Glad you got your picture.

I see you are using a water bottle thingy... which I'm sure it has a name??? How do you like it? Pros/cons?
