Kermit Runner

Awhile ago, I mentioned a few other runners in my neighborhood, one of whom runs backwards down the street; well, last night he was out running while I was out getting my 3 miler in, and it seems he's added a new part to his routine. He now occasionally flails his arms about while he's running backwards.

I would like to say the maneuver mimics a windmill, but that description would make the action seem more choreographed than it appears. It really just looks like he's flailing his arms about.

I would say that perhaps this elderly man is suffering from some sort of disease or unfortunate failure to control his limbs, except that he doesn't do it all the time. When he runs forward, he stops the arm flailing and just runs like normal. It kinda reminded me of that episode of "Friends" when Phoebe and Rachel go running and Rachel discovers that Phoebe runs like "Kermit the Frog." That is a very close comparison to this guy.

When I was running my half marathon last weekend I saw someone stop at mile 6 turn around and start running backward!

Wow, running backwards? That sounds way too difficult!

You need to figure out a sneaky way to catch this on video. I love that episode of friends!

If I ever tried to run backward, I would be like Rachel and run into a horse...or I'd be on my ass...

I've seen the backward runners and have no idea how or why they do it...

LMAO! My very fit girlfriend ran just like Phoebe when she started running. I told her I couldn't run with her because my stomach hurt from laughing.

(she is a little better now)

Hilarious!!! There are all kinds out there....

At my gym there is a girl that puts the treadmill on a steep incline and then walks sideways on it. Still not as funny as your guy doing that stuff out on the street!!!

Hilarious Video.

I run like that all the time, what's the problem? LOL..

You gotta catch this guy on video! Too funny... Jon and I used to live by a crazy rollerblader who would do all these fancy skating type moves and jumps - which I know sounds cool, but somehow came off as kinda lame.

ha, their arms are all over the place in that skit aren't they? Ha ha... forgot all about that episode!

You need to go icgonito so you can video tape this dude for your blog-followers' pleasure!

Hey Jess, I haven't visited for a while, so I am so happy to see that you are expecting!!! YAY!

2. There is a guy at the gym who runs backwards and sideways on the treadmill... it is amazing. It looks like he is dancing - his arms wave around. I would be hanging on for dear life!

3. Some ladies from the running club told me about Phoebe style running and advised me to do it when I got tired in my first half - I did... and it helped - a lot!

Oh, I so want to do that tomorrow at my race. Maybe I can knock a few 25-29ers on their respective asses in the meanwhile.

Oop. SOWWRRRRY!

There's a man in my parent's neighborhood that bikes like Kermit: his knees sway all over the place while he's biking. It's a very lunique style.

There's no way I could see someone running like that and not bust out laughing.
