Baby Girl's Details

First of all, thanks for all the congrats and good wishes about our announcement yesterday; I truly appreciate everyone's enthusiasm! It's so much fun to share all of this exciting stuff with you guys.

And yesterday truly was an exciting day. For a couple of reasons:

For one, it was fun to get to find out that the baby will be a girl (they can see the hoo-ha and everything with ultrasounds these days, so yes, we're certain it's a girl). We would have been thrilled with either sex, and we honestly had no preferences, nor did either of us have an inklings or intuition one way or another, but finding out the baby's sex just makes her seem so real now! I mean, she was real before, but now that I can picture a baby girl, she seems more real than ever before, and that is just exciting in a way that's almost indescribable. I can't wait to meet her and see what she's like!

For another reason, it was wonderful just to see her on the ultrasound! This was our first one, so it was our first looksie at her, and to see the baby in there was awesome. The ultrasound office has everything displayed in front of you on a wall-mounted HDTV, so we didn't have to scrunch over the tech's shoulder in order to see what she was seeing. It was all there in front of us on a big, clear TV. And it truly is amazing how much detail they can reveal now: We got to see most of her organs: kidneys, liver, heart, brain (all of which are strong, healthy and without defect) and we could see two arms, two legs, little feet, little hands and fingers and toes! So from everything we saw and from everything the tech saw (she was noting things that we had no clue about), the baby's developing right on schedule and is strong and healthy!

So, in many ways, that was even more exciting than discovering her sex. Plus, it was fun to see her kicking and movin around the entire time during the u/s: She's a mover! And no wonder I have to pee all the time -- she was kicking my bladder the whole time!

On to answering a few of your FAQs:

1. Yes, we already know what we'll name her. We had already discussed names at great length, and had determined both a boy and a girl name. We're gonna name her Norah. We both have always liked the name, so since yesterday afternoon, we've already switched from calling her LBB to calling her Baby Norah.

2. My last name will be her middle name. (And yes, I know my full name was displayed on the pic on yesterday's post. If you're gonna go ahead and stalk me, that's fine.) And she'll have Jerry's last name as her last name.

3. No, I have no idea how we'll decorate the nursery, but no, it won't include a pink explosion. I'm not really that fond of pink, personally, and I'm also not too much of a girly-girl, so while I'm sure her nursery and clothes will all be distinctly feminine, I'm not sure what decorating direction we'll go in.

Okay, that's enough baby talk for now. I have been running this week. Still sticking to my 3 milers and they're still going well. But I think I may bring the Garmin along for this evening's run because I am curious to see just how slow I'm going; I swear, these 3 milers feel good but they feel like they take me forever!

Aw yay!! Norah is adorable and timeless! I am with you on the nursery... feminine doesn't have to be pink, thank goodness.

Congrats on seeing your healthy little baby girl. :)

Very cool. It's been a long time, but I remembering they telling us that they could actually tell the gender of a girl with more certainty than a boy.

Glad she is healthy.

When I had a baby girl, I decorated her room in mint green. I'm not all that into pink either. And I did a Noah's ark theme in Son's room - mostly yellow - vs blue when we had a boy.
Have fun with whatever decorating scheme you choose. :-)

I think Norah Higgins Jerry is a great name!

seriously, as a dad of 2 girls, i can tell you that girls rule! she will make you more of a girlie girl. they did it to me. girlie it up! our oldest does have a pink room.

one thing, light blue/purple kinds of shades are known to have calming effects. so we painted the nursery a color called "calming lavender" from Lowe's. it really helped the baby wake up more calmly in the mornings.

Baby Norah sounds wonderful! I am happy you could pick a name and feel comfortable sticking to it. In my day everyone picked the name first thing!
There is a lot of great nursery themes out there (that are not a pink explosion) but cute for little girls; or for both sexs as a matter of fact. You two will have a ball picking something out. Good Luck!

I painted Brookes room brown and got cream colored furniture...thought I wasnt going to go all into the pink...but I was wrong. All of her accents are pink and its like a pink palace. In addition, I dont think they make little girls clothes in any color BUT pink, so she lives in a pink room and wears all pink clothes ;)

I just found your blog through trainingforahalf.blogspot.com. I am so excited to follow your journey with Norah. I am 36 years old, and my husband and I are thinking about trying to have our first child in the next year. I have been running for 8 years and strength training for almost a year. I am very nervous about the whole pregnancy thing...It's all new and scary to me, and I'm not even pregnant yet! :)

How exciting, Baby Nora! I digg it!

I'm amazed that you and the hubby decided so quickly. My hubby and I couldn't agree until the very end, when Emily just clicked for us both. She is the perfect Emily btw!

I decorated in Winnie the Pooh colors.

Can't wait to meet Baby Norah! We are so excited for you. Let me know if you want any hand-me-down clothes (though I can't promise they won't be pink - 99% of everything people gave me was pink!).

Ironically, Rylee finally grew into a melon-colored outfit today and it was such a refreshing change of color (even though I really do love pink!). :)

I really like the name, very pretty. Bet you guys can't wait to get started on all the nursery stuff!

I'm so happy for you, J and Baby Norah. What a beautiful name.

It's so funny to read the answers to your questions. J and I have discussed when we have children that they will have my last name as their middle names and his last name. And if I have a girl, she can wear pink, but NO pink room. Ha.

Really, Jess. Congratulations again. You guys are going to be great parents. I can't wait to read about all your adventures.

Great job on the 3-mile runs... keep it up!

First - Congrats on having a girl.
Second - Norah is a most excellent name. I approve. Not that it means anything to you.
Third - Wasn't I the first person to "call it" when you first announced you were preggers? I believe so. Where's my prize?

A friend of mine was running and flip turning in the pool until the last days. It was the only time I could run with her.

According to the Ultrasound, your name is Jessica Philips Higgins. Does this mean poor little Norah will have FOUR total names? Norah (Jessica's Maiden Name) Philips Higgins Jerry?
Wait...that's FIVE!

Can you add my name into the mix too?

Congrats again! So exciting!

Love the post! Because my husband and I are almost ready to jump on that first kid bandwagon in a year or so, it's been fun to read about your experiences as a runner and pregnant mom. Hope you don't mind if I add you to my blog list, since I pretty much check yours every day anyway!
